Re: St john island
It's legal to fish along the stretch where the ferry jetty is. The west side of the island is marked as marine reserve and the south side is occupied by AVA's installation. There's plenty more area to explore across the causeway, but it takes some walking.

Re: Belanger's Croaker
This is a Saddle Grunt, they don't grow very big. Although they aren't Croakers, they certainly can croak.

Re: Recommendations for rod for shore light game and luring
I'm not updated with the latest tackle but you can look at Storm Teenie if you're actually fishing along the rocks. If you're looking more into targeting pelagics that may require further casting distance, you might want to get a rod that is 7-8' rod like Shore X.

Re: how many feet rod is suitable for fishing
That really depends on where you're fishing from and what type of fishing you're referring to. You have to be a little bit more specific.
Re: Crabs!
I wouldn't want to try crabs raw, I personally think it's kind of dangerous. Although vinegar does kill bacteria, it doesn't penetrate the crab meat as well as cooking can.

Re: Greedy grouper
Hi Javie, welcome to HLF. Yes, groupers can be very greedy and do take relatively large sizde prey. What is more interesting though, is that the groupers starts feeding after being caught. Usually, fishes landed will not resume feeding right away due to trauma, it can take up to a few days for them ...
Re: Crabs!
I love steamed flower crabs, the meat is very sweet. How did you catch those crabs?

Sounds like an exciting night. :D The golden colour one is what they called "Kim Seng", usually regarded as the better than the white ones, not as common as well. Most catfish has very good meat texture, the eeltail ones are especially good. The dishes you made looks delicious! The last one ...

That's most likely it. Thanks for the update, Labrador park having tambans is always a good sign over there. Good luck on your fishing today!Commando_YR_Chin wrote: ↑Sat Mar 03, 2018 4:58 pmThe small fish has hard shell on cheeks, like armour plating... Could be a Longhead Grunter? (Goo Hoot?)![]()

That's a great view, I believe this is the opposite shore of Changi Point Terminal where you can take a ferry to Ubin.

Re: Is this a Thunder Crab?
Pretty interesting catches there, yes it's a thundercrab. The claws are supposedly edible, I've personally have tried it but not its body. https://i.imgur.com/OKY5UvI.jpg This is a moon crab and it should be edible but they don't grow very big so there's not much meat to take from it anyway. I can't...

Re: Gong Xi Fa Cai! Q: Different period of the Year?
It's usually the buddhist groups who practise this fish release. They will buy the fish from the fish farm and release it into the sea, sometimes from shore and other times they will transport the fishes by boat to the middle of the sea to release them. Aside from that, nets in the fish farm do suff...

Re: Gong Xi Fa Cai! Q: Different period of the Year?
A prosperous new year to you too. :champagne: Not all species have seasons, or at least some aren't as noticeable. The surge in fishes or fish species probably comes from 'outer region' brought in by the monsoon current. The northeast monsoon typical starts from around November to March, it's techni...
