Re: Gong Xi Fa Cai! Q: Different period of the Year?

It's usually the buddhist groups who practise this fish release. They will buy the fish from the fish farm and release it into the sea, sometimes from shore and other times they will transport the fishes by boat to the middle of the sea to release them. Aside from that, nets in the fish farm do suff...

Re: Gong Xi Fa Cai! Q: Different period of the Year?

A prosperous new year to you too. :champagne: Not all species have seasons, or at least some aren't as noticeable. The surge in fishes or fish species probably comes from 'outer region' brought in by the monsoon current. The northeast monsoon typical starts from around November to March, it's techni...

Re: Need id for fish caught in Northeast water Singapore (boat fishing)

Yes, that's a bigeye croaker. Nice catch on this little fellow, they don't grow very big, at least not from what I've seen in local waters.

Welcome to HLF, baryonix. :flower:

Re: Ocea Jigger

1. Carbontex is a third party brand of drag washer, it used to be Carbontex offers better drag washer than stock washers that came with the reel. I do think that OJ's stock drag washer is plenty sufficient. One important factor about drag system is its ability to pay out line smoothly at high drag. ...

Re: Ocea Jigger

You can't go wrong with Ocea Jigger, its smooth and powerful cranking is a pleasure to use. The only thing lacking is its drag power. At full spool its actual drag is only about 4+kg, still acceptable for typical fishing. The drag on its spec sheet seems to take the average drag throughout the spool...

Re: Christmas CR

Merry Christmas Yuheng. It's impressive that you managed to land such a catch even when you're not fishing at your usual casting spot. I don't know if it's safe to eat the grouper but I wouldn't take the risk. Its obviously stung by the catfish, and although most of the venom is concentrated at the ...

Re: Tips for Cobia

It's very likely bioluminescence produced by Sea Pen when your tamban came into contact with it. I used to get them too while fishing at Punggol years back. I was quite baffled by it as well when my prawns came back glowing, till I got a Sea Pen on my hook along with the glowing substance. ht...

Re: Tips for Cobia

Try not to overlap the tambans when you pack them, ie line them up nicely side by side, single layer. It makes it a lot easier to use when you're out fishing, just take out a few to thaw and the rest can still remain frozen in your ice box. In the freezer, you want to pack the tamban air tight the l...

Re: Tips for Cobia

Hmm but have they been landed at other spots? (eg. Labrador park) Not that I am aware of. In my opinion, Labrador Jetty is not as good for pelagic fishes compared to Bedok Jetty due to current flow. Labrador Jetty used to get good current circulation before the Pasir Panjang Terminal land was recla...

Re: Tips for Cobia

I'm going to have to go with Bedok Jetty, looking at the number of big cobias landed there by Shore Angler. You can check out his website here . The jetty is rather competitive though, there will be a bunch of regulars taking up the good spots. Cable car rig with live tamban is a good way to target ...

Re: Yet another snapper!

You definitely made a good decision there in using the squid for bait, live squid is a sure take if a fish comes along. The only concern is bait stealers that will ruin it. Nice catch on the golden snapper.

Re: Recent Catch

That's quite a productive spot for Singapore shoreline, nice catches. I have a friend who likes that bream a lot, the meat is fine indeed. My tastebud don't agree with him though, I feel that there's a weird taste to the meat.

Thanks for sharing your catches with us. :)
