Re: Talang Queenfish

Congrats on landing your first queenfish, sizes like this will often hit sabiki jigs and can be quite a fight!

Re: Anchor Tuskfish

This tuskfish is one of those you won't find in deeper waters, almost always near shore or shallow reefs. It's not the most prized catch among Tuskfishes, but it is one smart fish!

Re: Freckled Hawkfish

It should in the same family as the Freckled Hawkfish but I am not quite sure of the exact species though. I'll look into it.

Re: Hound Needlefish

Those are about 2kg, not very common in BJT but they do come in from time to time. St John's island used to have these sizes in large schools but has since diminished from overfishing.

Glad to know you're cautious in handling fish, venomous or not. Thanks for the pictures again.

Re: Painted Scorpionfish

Thanks, that was a well taken picture. There was a cloth(?) beneath the fish and its fins were well spread out.

Re: Painted Scorpionfish

That's a waspfish, possibly a long-spined waspfish. Notice how its dorsal fins are way up front compared to a scorpionfish. Do you mind if I add this picture to HLF's library as well? :)

Re: Immaculate Puffer

Oh yes, the second one does looks like a Map Puffer. I have yet to see one in local waters, nice catch! Do you mind if I use your picture and add it to the HLF library?

It's legal to fish along the stretch where the ferry jetty is. The west side of the island is marked as marine reserve and the south side is occupied by AVA's installation. There's plenty more area to explore across the causeway, but it takes some walking.

This is a Saddle Grunt, they don't grow very big. Although they aren't Croakers, they certainly can croak.

Re: Recommendations for rod for shore light game and luring

I'm not updated with the latest tackle but you can look at Storm Teenie if you're actually fishing along the rocks. If you're looking more into targeting pelagics that may require further casting distance, you might want to get a rod that is 7-8' rod like Shore X.
