Re: Ocea Jigger

1. I would go for the size 1500 as the size 1000 is a niche size and there's only so much you can do with it, with a size 1500 you could load up heavier lines and load up a full spool as compared to a size 1000, if you're just going to play light lines, just have a mono backing so as not to lose out...

Re: Prawn Cubes

Hi Foli! And a warm welcome to HLF.

Prawn cubes are just prawns cut up to bite sized pieces, we normally use them on an Apollo rig to target small fishes, but you do get the occasional big fishes, hope this explanation helps! :D

Re: Recent catches

That's a good haul there! Here's a tip when eging, try to downsize your squid jig even more to get more hits when there isn't much activity, i've went all the way down to size 1.5 and it works wonders ;) By the way, i'll be heading down for an overnight trip on labour day to test out my toy that i g...

Re: Got any Egi recommendations?

was your drag settings too high? when you hook onto a squid it will naturally shoot out its ink out as a form of natural defense, it will also attempt to propel itself backwards, so having a high drag will actually cause the tentacles to be ripped out from the hooks.

Re: Got any Egi recommendations?

Sorry for the late reply Commando! :( I would recommend starting with the cheaper brands before getting the branded ones such as yamashita, yozuri, kanji, harimitsu, etc. Have a feel of the terrain first before using thoses spanking new branded ones hahas, for the size go for 2.0-3.0, colour wise i ...

Re: First chermin!

Congrats on your first chermin! :D The season for the selars should be underway and will be plentiful from the place you're fishing at, you'll also get the occasional big ones that pull real hard. Do keep an eye on where you're stepping as there are inconsiderate anglers who discard their hooks on t...

Re: Short CR

i reckon the fish that straighened your hooks could be be a rabbit fish! they are notorious for straightening hooks on the cheapo 1 dollar tamban rigs, best if you use quality hooks and leader. It also seems that you have productive spot there! put in the hour and eventually you'll land something de...

Re: What fish to fish at Bedok Jetty?

Hi Syap and welcome to HLF :D There are always schools of tamban near the jetty but sometimes due to the strong current, they are unwilling to bite! Your best bet would be first and lasat light. As for the trip you've described, it could be that the tambans were spooked off by the todaks. What you c...

Re: Bedok jetty

Hmm it seemss that it points down to either a barracuda or the fish cut you off at some structure near the jetty. 30lbs is what i'd normally use too! I'm not sure where else you can find todaks, might want to get some input from alleycat as there are so many places in SG that i have not been to = :S

Re: Some small catch!

Seems like everyone is on fire today! I wanna head out to the local jetties to fish but i'm bogged down by my essays :( Well done with the whitings again! the silver fish might be a barramundi or a pelagic fish, sometimes when baiting with small hooks you tend to get the rare appearances of such fis...

Re: Bedok jetty

I can see that you had a rather eventful trip! Instead of seeing whether the baitfish is visible, try to take note of where you line is headed as you do not want the todak to take the baitfish and run towards the nearby lines around you, and i would wait about 30 seconds before setting the hook! But...

Re: Some small catch!

You might want to cast far out and when retrieving your line, make sure to do it extra fast! Labrador is notorious for having lots of snags there. Hope you land a big one and share the story :D

Re: Some small catch!

You could try using the whitings as bait for stingray! Apparently from the various people who surfcast in SG, i've heard that the whiting is the best bait for stingray. Alternatively you could deep fry them and get a tasty snack out of it :D
