Re: Reason for missed hookup.
Hm...I also have a lot of those encounter where the hookup keep missing when using baitfish. Try using free spool with float and long leader, let the fish run for a while before striking, usually will confirm hook up but have high chance of gut hook. Every useful if you dont intend to release the f...

Re: Baitcasting Reel
A simple (and effective way) is to keep an sharp eye for the sinker, i know it might be hard, but thats what i do.
I watch the bait as it makes its way to the water, and when its just a few meters (or CM) away from the water line, apply pressure onto the reel, thus preventing the dreaded birdnest.

Re: perfect time to fish ?
For depth, KBL can be more commonly found off shore when the season (which is now i think, till December?), but are equally common in canals. Mangrove swamps/estuaries/brackish canals are also other spots you may want to go, especially 6 pipes, that place is good to fish during the receding high tid...

Re: Closed Face Reels
Nice....but if that thing jams its going to be much harder to untangle compared to a spinning.
Spinning is much better for beginner though.....i did see some at joe's fishing tackle shop (beach road), but i guess this will do you will enough.

On the first day,the sea around the kelong was filled with fishes, with my cable car rig set,i relaxed, not expecting much. Then my rod bent slightly, the struck hard,i...

Looks like a promising fishing spot, such docks are deep, and the water should be fairly clean i guess.
