yes the freshness of the bait is a factor.The KBL, diamond travellies and some fishes are choosy fishes, they mainly want live prawn. Some other fishes are not so choosy, and will take dead prawn bits that are fresh. If you are catching catfish, it is not particular, even lousy smelly prawns works. ...

What is your prefered knot for tying a 30 - 40 lb mono to a swivel ? the line become curvy after pulling tight. I used water to lubricate, but it still curl.

Some anglers catch them on spinnerbait and rattlin rapala. I've only only caught one on yozuri crystal minnow. I'd think it isn't easy to catch them on lures, compare to the usual toman and pbs.

You can use a suitable piece of loosely twisted stainless steel wire. like below, use epoxy to fill in the hole together with the wire. you can bent the ends of the wire backwards like the barbs of hook, but I'm unable to illustrate it here. I've used penknife, but it is a bit unpredictable if newbie use it, as the blade may break off sometimes. unfortunately, I can't find a sharper carving knife that is affordable.
