Re: Malabar Grouper

I actually prefer Labrador Jetty, before the front segment of the jetty are out of bounds for fishing. It had lots of corals below, perfect for groupers.

Re: Orange-spotted Grouper

The most common place to find them are along breakwaters, if you comb the small drop off of an entire stretch of breakwaters, you're likely to find one. Be ready to lose some terminal tackles though.

Re: Humpbacked Cardinalfish

If I recall, they have a strong fishy smell. I caught one beside Kranji Dam too, I guess they prefer brackish waters.

Re: [Freshwater] Snakehead Murrel

If the canal or river provides sufficient cover and food source, yes. You're less likely to find them in the monsoon canals in our urban areas, those are canals don't provide cover and have too strong of water flow during rainy days.

Re: [Freshwater] Snakehead Murrel

Honestly, I'm not sure where's a good legal spot now. Shallow canals with slow moving water and lots of weeds are good places to hunt for them. I used to often spot haruans at the Springleaf PCN, it's not a legal spot though.

Re: [Freshwater] Walking Catfish

I've never tried mealworks before but I don't see why they won't work. But I can see earthworms being a better bait because of its slime...eww...Catfish should be able to detect them underwater more easily. The best earthworms are those asian jumping earthworms, they're large and really do flip arou...

Re: [Freshwater] Snakehead Murrel

It all depends on your setup and technique that will expose your leader to a bite. Ie. luring where bait is typically moving vs stationary baiting where the fish has a higher chance to swallow the bait and bite the leader. 20 LBs is generally fine, if you're expecting a big haruan, go heavier.

Re: [Freshwater] Walking Catfish

Not sure if it's still legal to fish there, the canal along Ulu Pandan Park connector is a good place to look for catfish. I used to see people fishing at the section where the old railway tracks crosses over.
