Herring school

Post by Peace »

This is a pretty common sight, especially at river mouths or shores with brackish waters. At first I thought those were asams but when I found a few scattered along the beach, they don't look quite like it.

A typical school will look like this from afar

Herrings provide food for lots of predatory fishes, so its not a bad sign to see them around as there are probably big fish lurking near the schools. ;)

I don't have a good specimen picture of it but I will try to get it someday. Anyone knows what herring is this? They look very similar to tambans are larger in size. Or could this be the so called the sampan kua?
