I am not a Koi fanatic ... neither know anything about Koi

It so happens I came into contact with these beautiful fishes from Japan ...
After months of watching them swim and got friendlier each day ...
It's about time I share some of our special moments together ~

There are 16 main varieties of Kois and this beautiful one in the pic is call Yamabuki Ogon ~ :D

Tancho Kohaku

The sacred crane of Japan (Grus Japonensis) is a spectacular white waterfowl with a blood red crest and is called a Tancho.
Legend has it that these birds live for a thousand years and are agents of good fortune and longevity.

The name Tancho was originally bestowed on a Kohaku that was completely white with a
distinctive round and red "crest" on the center of its head.
This Tancho Kohaku is well loved by the Japanese people as it reminds them of their national flag,
a red sun on a white field.

There are several other kinds of Tancho including Tancho Sanke, Tancho Showa, and Tancho Goshiki.
But the Tancho Kohaku remains the most sought after.

Wow, the first picture must be one of the best photo you've taken so far. Very nice. Fishes that are given names like these are probably very expensive, in fact they already look pretty much so. Don't overfeed them! :shh:

Kohaku

Kohaku are white bodied Koi with red markings.
Often the color is more orange than red.
Ideally the color of the body is pure white like the snow on Mount Fuji.
The highest grade of red is the same color as the Japanese flag.

Colorations of Koi should be well defined with sharp edges and obvious distinction between
the red and white body colors that do not bleed or fade into each other.

Champion Kohaku Koi do not have any hues of red on the fins, below the eyes or on the mouth area.

Cha Goi

A brown koi, the brown colour can vary from deep chocolate brown to light, almost olive green in appearance.

Despite its drab appearance this is one of the most popular types of Koi due to its friendly nature and ability to rapidly grow to a large size.

A large Cha Goi is an imposing sight in any koi pond and sets off the brighter colours of its more glitzy cousins.
