Good try there Holy.

A little suggestion here ... pay a little attention where you wana position your subject.
Left, right or center ?
Back or front ?
Where is the focus point ?

Take your time ... slowly ... you have a dslr in your hand now.
I'll appoint you as the official photographer for our events when you know your D40 inside out. :)

Shoot more ... the mroe you shoot the better you will become.
Do not be afraid to get pics which are not nice ... there's beauty in everything ... just how you bring it out thru a photo.

Good try !

Nice shot there ... plenty of rooms for improvements.
Do experiment shooting from different angles.
top down, left right, right left, bottom up, side way, this way that way ...
you'll be amazed how differently you can portray a subject.
Use grid to help alignment.
You might like to start with daylight shooting with none reflective subject first.
It's easier compared to night shots which even myself cannot do it right till now. :( :o

You need to do some readings too ;)

Enjoy and have fun playing with your new toy ~

Chef ... Just a tip I learnt from Peacy ... Try putting a tissue in front of the flash to diffuse the light. If you want to learn fishing, learn from dBs ... If you want to learn shooting ... learn from Peacy first then shoot with DomDom ... If you want to learn art ... learn from Arsenal ... If you want to learn all the bad bad things ... learn from Tere *But I won't teach you de lor*    Wahahahahah

Your camera got Motion Detection ... Next time you can even take pictures of lightning too ... in the mean time, try taking pictures of still objects first ... then slowly upgrade to insects. You can take a pic of a toothpick, match, hooks, etc etc etc ... but only during your non-study time.
