Where do you go head to when you are hungry in the middle of the nite, especially on weekends after a late nites fishing trip ?
Besides the famous Jalan Kayu Roti Prata restaurant ... we have found another wonderful place to have Chinese food, Hong Kong style ! :D

Xing Wang Hong Kong Cafe at Heartland Mall, Hougang to be exact.

It is one of the many Hong Kong style cafe that have spring up in Singapore in recent years.
With others in similar concept being Wan Chai Hong Kong tea room, Wong Kok Char Chan Teng etc ...
I almost got confuse and thought they were all the same. lol !

I guess we were attracted there with their "metal tin cup" used to serve the tea in.
Looks just like those they used in Hong Kong movie prison's scene.

Food wise ... I wouldn't say they are nice or even good at all.
Tried their dim sum ... the har gao was lousy.
The skin tear open with the shrimp dropping out of it as you pick it up with a chopsticks.
The siew mai was too hard and not tasty at all.

What we really like was the luncheon meat and egg noodle, the famous Hong Kong style 餐蛋面!
It's really crazy to pay $6-8 dollars to eat a slice of luncheon meat with an egg cook with instant noodles.
But the taste was unique, I doubt I can produced the same standard given the same ingredients.
Simon love it, our fishing kakis love it and so do I.

The spring roll was good.
Crispy on the outside and the filling was hot and not too salty.

The prawn's hor fun was kinda overpriced though.
The portion was really miserable with very little kway teow and few big prawns.
Taste wise was so so only. Nothing fantastic about it except for the price ...ex lor !

The environment and ambience of the restaurant was good.
Beautifully decorated ... makes you feel you are dinning in Hong Kong.

With just the metal tin cup of teh and 餐蛋面 ...
we are a happy bunch to be able to continued chit chatting over tea.
At least we have a choice now ...

Another visit to the cafe ...

We went for the famous Hong Kong style luncheon meat and egg Maggi mee again.
But this time round, we tried the dry version.
As usual, served with two slices of luncheon meat and an egg, cucumber and tomato slice as garnish.

I cannot explain it in words the taste, I can only say it's different.
Probably the environment, atmosphere and serving style did some trick
but I believe the cooking method and ingredients used did magic with the Maggi noodles.

The seafood horfun might be a little more expensive than normal tse char stall ...
taste so so only ... but I love hor fun. :yay:

The metal tin cup is such an attraction ... we just have to order the drink ...
The cup is cute and the drink is shiok ... especially on a hot night.
