I.can.cook.2

Hit by Korean fever, not K-Drama or K-pop ... is Korean Food !
The word "cooking" was never in my dictionary but I am cooking lately ... haha
Have a very good mil who stock up our fridge with many ingredients but nobody uses them ...
She even replaced all our pots and pans and even got us a Happy Call Jumbo !!

Simon used to be the house chef ...
Looks like the responsibility is shifting ...

Alright, to begin a new hobby of mine ... Korean cuisine ~

Ddeokbokki

Ddeokbokki, or simply Korean Rice Cake is a very popular and common street food ...

First eaten this dish at a Korean restaurant along Upp Thomson Road, Aunty's Kim Restaurant.
Not cheap for a simple dish, cost $15 per serving excluding tax and service charges.

Happens to be at NTUC Finest and chance upon the rice cake and sauce.
So here it is ... my 1st attempt at cooking a Korean dish, Ddeokbokki !

The rice cake from Korea, it is actually made with glutinous rice.
The sauce for cooking the rice cake ... $2.40/pkt.
This sauce is spicy and good to use for wrap eating BBQ meat too ...

I like it simple ... using only sliced onions and some spring onions.
You may add in cabbage, carrots, mushroom, fish cake or even minced meat.

Fry the onions a little and add in a glass of water, rice cake and the sauce.
Stir and mix well and allow it to simmer till rice cake soften.
The sauce will thicken when done.
Simple and nice eating Korean dish right from home's kitchen.

Aha ! Peace agreed I can cook 2 !! :D
Here's another Korean dish, a soup ~

Samgyetang (삼계탕)

Image

Ingredients : A chicken, one stalk of Korean jinseng, chestnuts, red dates, garlic cloves, glutinous rice

Image

Image

Soak glutinous rice in water for 1-2 hours before using it to cook the soup.

Image

Rub chicken inside out with sea salt ...
Then stuff 3/4 of the ingredients into the chicken stomach and "sew" up the hole to prevent ingredients from leaking out.
Place rest of ingredients into a pot with the chicken and bring to boil ...
Turn to low heat and simmer for 1.5 hours ~ simple ya ?

Korean Jinseng Chicken Soup right from home's kitchen !

Image

Chicken taste deliciously soft with a hue of ginseng aroma ...
Soup wasn't right as the "hole" burst and the glutinous rice leaked out making the soup a little too starchy.
But overall was a tasty dish no less ...
Gonna cost you $20 for half the portion to eat in a Korean restaurant ~

So head to the market and cook it yourself ...
If i.can.cook.2
So can u !! :D
