moon phases
hey guys, i intend to go cbw dis sat for crabbing, but my dads malay kaki says that the moon is not gd for fishing or crabbing, if want go go next sat. does the moon affect the crabs? its flower crab season now, so i'm quite puzzled D:

I'm not exactly into crabbing but I can offer you some possible explanations. I don't believe moonlight has any effect on the crab activity but rather the tide level and current that comes with a particular moon phase. You have extreme tide levels (ie spring tides) during new and full moon and in those periods, current tend to be very fast.
Most crabs would rather scavenge than hunt, slow current are easier for them to forage as food can settle on the seabed as opposed to strong current. As such, you may find crabs a little more active as tide are almost at its peak or near lowest when the current is slowing down.
I'm not sure if it's flower crab season now but I did witness someone catching a big flower crab on hook last week. Good luck on your crabbing.
