Re: fishing reels
Actually almost every tackle shop sells budget reels, some are even sold as a set paired with rod at lesser than 50.

Re: fishing reels
i believe it all depends on what type of fishing are u going to, what type of fish u wanna catch.
pond? offshore? jetty?
if go pond, no need get too expensive ba. my reel is brandless, and it's good enough for pond fishing.
but it's not good enough for offshore.
after going offshore once, i think it's better to get a good reel and rod. it's better to overkill in pond, rather than underkill.
like i only have a pond setup, when i go offshore, i damn sian. i used my friend's rod, and another friend's reel.
it's always better to use your own stuff. =)

Re: fishing reels
able to tahan 16kg is quite strong.
i think mine only can tahan max 8-10kg.
mine is basstera ev 5ft6.
for offshore, it's better to get stiffer rods. short and stiff rods. cos there's no need to cast. just drop and let the current do the job.
but it's not good for pond fishing. cos cannot cast far.
as for pond fishing, no need too long cos no need to cast soooo far...average dist is fine.
and it's not so stiff.
unless for jetty fishing, where u need to cast further.
so it all depends on what type of fish u wanna catch, where u wanna fish and many other stuff.
also, even if your rod is able to tahan 16kg, must see your line can tahan anot. and your reel strong enough anot. soo....ya...alot of factors.
that's what i sort of learnt during my offshore trip. still a newbie, so any experienced anglers, please correct me if i'm wrong (the above).

Re: fishing reels
Yes, for offshore there isn't much need for casting unless you're playing with artificial lures. Keep the rod short for comfort and power.
