The best bait would be live prawns. So rigs that won't restrict the prawn action/movement in the water will be good. Chermins on shore are not very big most of the time hook size 3 or smaller Shud be ok.

Theres no best rig for chermin, but most ppl believe that a single or double hook apollo better then a lsbf rig.
For me, normally i would use smaller-medium sized live prawns with 1/0-2/0 hook. Also exercise caution when you got a chermin on the line, try not to set ur drag too tight or do a hard pump as the mouth of chermin tears easily. :D
Fishing is unquestionably a form of madness, but happily, for once bitten, there is no cure. --Francis

I've seen chermins landed with many different kinds of rigs, so I don't think rigs matter too much. Apollo is a safe rig to try out if you're not sure.

Should play surface, mid or bottom for chermin?

Although chermins sometime do feed in midwater, but your best bet should be on the bottom. I have yet to see someone land chermin on cable car though, but that's probably because they're targeting for other species of fish.

Hello, for chermins, should get the bait out as far as possible or just 5-10 yards from the jetty? Thanks

You don't need to cast out far to get cermins, they do come quite close to the shore. The bigger ones tend to stay further out (typically those above 2kg) for some reason. I've seen people landing chermins on the first shelter of BJT before.

Thank you Mr Peace. Your posts are like gold. All the little techniques you described are very useful info. I think you should publish a book about this: "Basic Fishing Techniques and Recommendations in Singapore Waters"

What I post are just little knowledge that anglers will pick up by themselves along their fishing journey. You probably can find them on the Internet, but more importantly is that you have to test and adjust them to your own fishing environment.
