What kind of lure to use in Bedok Jetty

Hi, newbie here.
Have a 1.35m rod, 2-6lbs test line and 5:2:1 reel.
Very cheap rod, about 10+
Aiming for small fishes like tamban only. Dont wanna break my rod.

There was once i went with my dad, caught about 50 odd tambans and the other rounder one.
A few days ago, I went with my friend and only caught 3 fishes with about the same time frame.
Was using the same lure, the one with many hooks and the shiny thing.
Only thing was that the one i used a few days ago was at least a year old.
Why is it we have such different catch rates?
Could see many fishes on the surface, but very little bites.
Is it because my lure is too old?
Should be going again 2 days from now.

1.That not a lure....its sakibi jig XPPP
2.old or new...they both work
3.buy the ones at tht BJT...they may cost more but are great...
4.those r glass/??? fishes...they take sakibi with bait(i wont tell how to do tht...ill pass tht part to peace)
5.the hook r not sharp...throw away the used ones and get new ones!

This is interesting calling those lures. It's ya as mention sabiki jigs more commonly known as tamban hooks.
Limfish is right in a way that you should get those sold by the uncle at bjt. Or u can go those at shops. The thing is to go for those which are hair like, looks like fur instead of those which is a piece of white plastic tied to the hooks. I hope I'm not wrong in what I shared, I heard this from old timers and tried it whenever I go bjt, apparently it works heh. Good luck.

Age of the of tamban jigs, or even used tamban jigs won't affect the catch rate by this much. The problem lies with the tambans behaviour and feeding mood. They don't feed all the time, or rather they won't take tamban jigs all the time even though you can see them thrashing near the surface. At times, you may only see a few tambans caught thorough the entire day.

It's only when you see everyone around you getting strings of tamban except you should you concern about the rigs and techniques used. And yes, those sold at the jetty by the regular folks works better than most sold at the tackleshops.

I don't see people do luring at bjt if i'm not wrong. Wondering would i have good results if i try there?

People typical don't lure there because of the height of the jetty and the space constraint for repeated casting (too many people walking about). While typical crankbaits won't swim very well, jigs will work slightly better. I've caught mackerels using jigs at Labrador Jetty but never really try BJT.

St John's Island's a good place to start if you don't mind paying for the ferry ride.

It does not matter if ur "lure" is old or not.Or maybe they r the ones caught and released.When they r CandR already,they don't make the "same mistake" again.

(Don't know is it correct or not because i am just a noob angler.)
