Is this a "Grunter"?

Post by Darth Salacious »

I went with my friend to Lim Chu Kang jetty 2 weeks ago. Using dead prawns and sotong, he managed to haul this one in.

I've managed to ID it against pictures on the net (I think so) as a Malaysian Mahseer, though one of my experienced angler friends said that this was a "grunter".

Another source showed a fish specimen which looked like it, called the Goatee Croaker.

Can anyone help to ID it pls?

Your right, it is a Goatee Croaker. It's also different family of fish from Grunters. Croakers are commonly called "gelama". They're commonly found in seabed with thick marine clay; especially water in the north to east side. I think Mahseer is freshwater fish. :)
