RIgs for Todak

Post by Shrimp »

Hi need some advise on the suitable rig for catching todak.

Also the size of hooks to use.

Saw something from this website http://myfishingfrenzy.com/kelong_fishing.php

Would like to know anyone have other rigs which they prefer.

Hi Shrimp, from what i know, most ppl would use floater with size 8 hooks, rod would be noodle rods for todaks. They would let the floater drift along the current with live/dead tamban or prawn meat till around 90m or more with their bail arm opened. Not easy ya ? :p

The best rig is to have nothing on except hook, leader and bait. You have to control the line though, don't let the bait sink too deep and release the line when the todak takes the bait. Todaks are sensitive to the resistance from your fishing line, too much and they will let go before swallowing.

Thanks for the replies! Would give it a try hopefully this coming weekend. How many hooks at the end of the leader is good? Saw some anglers using up to 3 hooks before, but can't remb the configuration of the rig used.
Tried using a 330ml bottle as float the last time, the resistance of the big bottle seems to spook the fish out once they got onto the bait. Thus hook didn't set at all. Got some reasonably smaller fishing floats this time round.

I have not seen ppl use so many hooks to target todaks. 3-4 hooks are mostly used to target halfbeaks i guess? u can actually use them as bait, there are actually some fishes who takes them. :p

u can try going to st john/kusu island for big todaks :D baitfish is plentiful, so a either hook, leader and bait as suggested by meow or floater by vidic will work :D
