Ajing/UL/LRF

Post by murasame »

Hi does anyone here have experience in light rock fishing/ajing in sg? Like from the shore etc, not on boats
Any tips on jigheads/rubbers and good spots to share ? Thx :)

I guess the best place to do this is at St John's and Lazarus Island. Plenty of rocky shores to fish at but the ferry will cost you $18. The rocky stretch beside SAFYC is a good spot too but I think it's fenced up with a state land sign or something.

The fish species there is very much diverse, lots of reef fishes like tuskfish, snappers and groupers. Of course chances of snagging will also increase. If you find fishing from the rock shores difficult you may also try fishing along the seawall in Lazarus Island.

Would a storm micro jigger be good for this style of fishing?

i wouldn't use the storm micro jigger for ajing/LRF as you would want an even lighter rod. i would recommend a 6'6-7ft rod, 2-6lb, lure weight 0.5-6g. In my opinion the microjigger is a tad heavy, does not cast light jigheads/lures well, and it's more suited for micro jigging off boats

Would minimum lure wt of 0.8g be sufficient?
Thinking of rapala rfs elegance/majorcraft finetail area

i'm not sure what rods they have in SG as i am pretty out of touch about the tackle scene! The rapala rfs elegance looks pretty darn good for it's specs, you can also take a look at the majorcraft solpara aji rods if you don't want to break the bank, and majorcraft skyroad if you would like to spend a little bit more. Do remember to have a feel of the rod with your reel mounted on first before committing to buy!

No kidding, I ever ordered a couple of screws from Tan Thong Cheong and it took at least 2 months to arrive. They come as a consolidated order so it can take some time. :S

Forgot to ask, these aji/mebaru rods like the solpara/skyroad can also be used for ultralight fishing for pb and haruan in our reservoirs right?

Definitely! the thrill of hooking up a decent sized fish on ultralight gear is awesome, words can't describe the feeling :P I even use my ultralight setup for eging too! Go have a read on my post under catch reports.
