Peacock Bass on topwater lure (updated 17th May)
I'm still new to this walk the dog thingy but it seems quite effective, I got a few hits from small peacock bass but the hook didn't manage to set. I finally manage to land a relatively large one after I spotted it chasing small fishes. Bad news is I got condensation inside on my camera lens from long exposure to heat. Bummer...
Here's the catch....
...and here's the action.
p/s: Don't ask me where I was fishing.

Re: CR: Peacock Bass on topwater lure
Suddenly all into walking the dog ... interesting style of luring.
Easy yet effective method.
Very exciting too especially when you see a predator tailing your dog.
That's one BIG PB you got there ...
Hey ... it's BLIND de !
I have got two cute Westies who won't mind a nice long walk in the park ..
Peacy can come take them if you ran out of dog to walk. hahaha ...

Re: CR: Peacock Bass on topwater lure
wow!!!
walking the dog, generally top water lure is really fun. watching all the while even when its hit by your biggie. but there's a catch with walking the dog. as you work your doggie, momentarily your line is slacked. if the fish comes to hit, you need to react skillfully fast enough to set the hook before they starts attempting to shake off the hook.
i bought quite a number of doggies, and all lost before i landed a fish. i quit! it is fun but i don't have the skills. @#$%^&
congratz!

Thanks for the comments guys.
I'm afraid I won't be able to fish with you but let me practise somemore and get it right so I can give a detail explanation on how to work it. But basically, it's similar to jigging only at a shorter and softer stroke. You'll be twitching and reeling in almost simultaneously so a reel with 'particular line retrieval rate' may be useful.patrick2405 wrote:hey peace nice peacock pavon you got there! mind teaching me how to walk the dog one day?
I'd love to have your dogs to walk with me when I lure, they give me time to run away should a crocodile comes along. Kidding!dBs™ wrote:Peacy can come take them if you ran out of dog to walk. hahaha ...
Yes, I noticed that most of the hits are on the slack when the lure slows down to a stop. I guess this is where treble comes in useful.sgpu wrote:but there's a catch with walking the dog. as you work your doggie, momentarily your line is slacked.

Sure, I'll share it when I'm good with it. You can also get one lure and try it yourself, it's not hard to get some zigzags with some experimenting.patrick2405 wrote:hahas okays.... when you think you've mastered it rmb to teach me how to work it!
I went trying out the lure again, this time with more hits though none as big as the one from the last trip. Pretty fun except for one where I had to go down to get the peacock bass out of the fallen branches.

Re: Peacock Bass on topwater lure (updated 9th April)
I managed to recall the name after some googling, the lure is called Ofmer Doggy. Yes, I kind of regret not taking a nice picture of the first fish. That fish literally messed me up that day, I dragged it to shallow waters to remove the hooks but it decided to thrash mud water all over me. I got mud on my shirt, face and camera.

Re: Peacock Bass on topwater lure (updated 9th April)
I bought it for around 15 dollars at Hotspot I think, can't remember the exact price. There are probably better lures out there that does walking the dog better but I only have this one lure, so don't get misled by my catches. I'd say the spot and timing play a more important role.patrick2405 wrote:hmm how much did you buy it for?
That's a good sign actually, it means you're doing something right and the fish takes a hit at it. To me that's always a motivation.fishingboy wrote: today i just lost my first peackcockbass on lure , i use zerrak floatiing minnow
