2 days 1 night fishing escapade

have been busy witk work lately, when i received a invitation from a fishing friend about a fishing trip, i jump in immediately
this is the place which i have been thinking of all the times. this time, die die must go.
it is a all guys fishing trip, no ppl will be playing mahjong (got mahjong table)
got TV, BMB sounds system, new aircon, new bed, new bathroom (got 2)
3 bedrooms with 3 beds in each (all airconditioned)

this is the places and the photo i have taken, it is indeed heaven to me.

This place look heavenly indeed, more like fishing heaven that is. Is this Sultan Shoal Lighthouse? I sure would like to have a chance to fish and relax there too. So how did the fishing went?

seriously, there are no place like this in singapore.

first day of action for me, i arrived with 2 friends in the morning boat
the rest of the 4 guys are already here yesterday

usual fishes caught, todaks, lost a barracuda (line snap), caught 3 sotongs (on a full moon night!??), gelamas, etc..

i throw my stuff in the room and change out for fishing gear, hat, polarised sunglass, long sleeve shirt...

i dont know what to expect, but 1 of my aim is to catch my first green eye here, but ****, full moon night.
while setting up gears, was chatting with a friend, he caught 3 sotong the night before, and another guy got a big 1
the full moon was then block by clouds.

i saw the powderful shrimp hunter he is using and he say this works fantastic in the water here
and i show him my powderful jig oso, told him "$1.50" nia, he look at me

i was trying to use small hook to get small fishes nearby, but seem like i can't get any of them
with plenty of live tamban jig up, i just grab 1 live tamban and put it on the hook and cast
"POM" i got my 1st take, i was using my friend 1000 reel with 6lbs line
thinking it is a todak, i just open up the bail and wait

then i show my friend next to me, " the line is peeling fast!"
and then, the owner of the reel walk up to me, i told him i got a hit
before i know, i look at the spool, no more line!!!!

line snap and the fish is gone.
the first fish i on, i got the spool stripped clean...

sianz, borrow another spool from my friend, a 30lbs line, this time i will get you.

with no action from bottom fishing, i just cast live tamban one after another, brining up todak after todak

but still lose to the todak king, DesT

look at the todak we caught, many smaller size 1 was thrown back

we stop fishing when the heavy rain came, we stop and have a kopi break
some have a quick shower, chatting over tibits, switch on tv, setting up gears for the night mission

well, we have DesT there as the chief cook

he prepared all our meal, with freshly caught fish, sotongs
another friends cook curry chicken (yummy)

we have dessert, prepared by the other friend, sea coconuts, with jelly, rambutan, etc
we had a very good dinner, all was chatting around the table after the tummy is filled up

sun is setting, but we are not wasting time, pick up the fishing gears and off we go, to the other jetty to try the luck

this time round, i tried bottom fishing again, using live tamban (it is plentyful)

i got a solid pull this time round!

ho seh liao, hook up another live tamban and when i got a take, it stuck!

****, nvm, i wait

luckily for me, about 5mins, the line start to move again, reel in the slack line and start to pump it up fast

and i caught a few more todaks loitering around before we went back to prepare for the night.

Interesting. It's a huge bonus to have live tambans there to use, gives very good odds to land a biggie. The green colour fish is a tuskfish, you can easily tell them apart from parrotfish with their pointy teeth or tusk on the mouth. Parrotfish's teeth are beak-like, one continuous row similar to that of a pufferfish. Yes, the second fish his a bluelined hind.

There's definitely more coral fishes there around the island, the place is not very disturbed and water is clean. The kind of fishing spot I like.

to joesph, no idea on the cost, my friend is the organiser.

let me carry on with the night mission

myself and another 2 friends, are aiming the sotong, but due to full moon condition, we do not know how well it will goes
my 2 friends are arm with the expensive shrimp hunters, i arm with the cheapo jig

went to the lighted up jetty about 9pm+, the moon is so bright!!
nvm, we start casting our jig.

less than 10 cast, i got my first green eyes, i'm so happy!


my friend help me scope by using a long handle net.

now is $1.50 : 1 vs $15 : 0

anyway, another sotong friend join in and we cast for next 1.5hrs and decided to call it quit.
the moon is getting too bright...




end up, most of the guys went back chalet and watch TV!
wah lau, you guys can watch all you want at home right?? !!

anyway, i went for a shower and chill down with a cuppa nice hot tea with potato chips
the living room is now very cold due to switching on of aircon system.
shiok man, refreshing with new change of clothes as well.

the night mission starts




one of the friend start by casting his long surf rod into the sea
poke it into a rod holder with a luminous tip clip on the rod tip

and went back to watch TV!
he say can see thru the window from the airconditioning living room
win liao loh

anyway, i took a short rod and cast out with whole kelong sotong


within 5mins, i got a hard knock on the rod tip
by the time i pull up the rod and strike, it is stuck...

nvm, set it up again and cast it out.

now i setup another surfrod, ready for biggy
and we grab 2 beach chair and get ourself comfortable



the poweful flood light is good foe eging, but the moon...


anyway, now we got total 3 rods parking.

we were sitting and chatting, with nice cooling seabreeze around us.

at about 12am, my friend say he wanna pig liao... alamak
left me all alone outside, nvm, i guess i will get something, tide is rising still and chance are good.

the wait is lonely, at about 1am+, saw slight movement on the smaller rod
but no violent pull and knocking and slight pulling, i waited

i hold the rod and standby, it is just very small movement and i continue to wait

until 5mins later, buay luan liao
tighten up the slack, give a solid strike and it feels heavy...

****, i think i got rubbish bag liao, nbz...

when that stuff surface, i see some flapping wings


this is it. a blue spotted ray


ho seh liao, re-bait and cast it back within min
the ray goes into the deep freezer

i told myself i will stop at 2.15am, which is about 2hours after high tide
to get some sleep and wait up for next day fight again

just before 2am, my surfrod got the same movement again, nbz...

so i decided to wait again, and keep watching the tip
but my eyes are starting to get sleepy, almost doze off

ok lah, i guess i had enough waiting
stand up, pull out the rod, tighten slack and strike!

solid stuff again!!

this time is slightly heavier, the feel on the surfcast rod told me
alright, this is it

wah lanz eh... to write CR is very pitiful and "pai tan", i dunno why dbs like it so much
i'm getting abit short circuit in my mind liao...

ok, DesT sleep the earliest last night, follow by the rest, me last one
next day, DesT is the last to wake up! i thought he can sleep all he wants at home mah.

anyway, we had our great tasting breakfast!!!

it is "THE LEFT OVER CURRY CHICKEN" from yesterday.

but seriously, after heating it up, it taste as good as yesterday, with a big drum stick + loti + hot kopi
and no one to rush you to do work, it is really the best vacation i had, even better than go oversea holiday man

some of the mates are already out fishing

when i went to the jetty, they are jigging up tons of tamban
*by the time i going back, they have estimated the tamban we bring up, is more than 500pieces*

anyway, i borrow the noodle rod from the "you know who" lah
and start to get todak, it is a warming up for me.

now, i grab a surf rod and start doing cable car, as one of the friend lost a barracuda this monrning, he was dragging the fish up hlaf way and it drop back into the water, what a waste...

so tighten the line, down goes a live happy wiggling tamban

the waiting game started, sun is good, breeze is cooling, tide is rising.

while going back to chalet to get some drink
i see this person

So far, no moon i catch, got moon I also catch, moon high and bright above, I also catch. No go home empty handed.

alright, i'm typing until damn sianzz liao...

anyway, back to the jetty

left me and one friend jigging for tamban, nothing to do mah

catch is good, sometimes you get all the 7 hooks with fish, with occasional kuning too

we are so busy with collecting the tamban, until we forget about other stuff

at about 10-11am

the sur rod i park earlier, suddenly give us a big shock, the reel is a bait runner system
when we hear the noise, we saw the entire butt of the rod tilted upward, pivoting on the railing
with the spooling spinning soooooooooooooooooooooo FAST that the line got backlash!!!

and it is quiet again...

when i sort out the char beehoon, i reel back the slack line
line broke...

it is another suspected of giant barracuda doing which is capable to do something like this
one of the friend lost a big suspected barracuda on the first day too, line snap, 30lbs line

****, this is bad...

bring back the surfrod, now the cable car running with steel wire liao
but then, the tide is almost coming to a stop at it;s highest...

it's lunch time

this time round, DesT whip up fried rice (of coz, from left over rice yesterday.)
with freshly caught sotong, fishes, etc + veggies

another friend make soup, with onions, no potato, carrot etc

and large junk of boiled chicken with black soy sauce + chopped red chilli (yummy!!)

this is also very nice lunch for all of us. i don;t think i eat so much during other days.

come afternoon, i already give up on the surf rod liao, but still cast it down with the steel wire + live tamban

within minute, *pom!* i got a take, the bait runner couldn't stop the monster
it just keep peeling out like nothing

and ****, it backlash again!!!

angry, pick up my rod and activate the drag, and strike, it's onz!!!
but can;t reel in, spool got stuck big time.

DesT help me to remove the spool to unwind the line, while i fight the fish by pulling the line

when it is done, start to fight the fish,
and it is a giant todak. (no need show pic liao hor)

measured at 90cm length, off it goes into the deep freezer.

ok, time to stop the monster chasing and go back to jig more tamban
and i caught this yellow tail among the silver fishes



my last catch of the day.

anyway, stop fishing at about 3pm, start to pack up stuff and have a quick shower before leaving here.

it is indeed a nice place to come, hopefully to come again in the near future.

wow, such a beautiful place to do surf casting and eging for biggggggggies ~!~ This place certainly is a SURF CASTER HEAVEN !!!!! I certainly would not hesitate to go for a vacation there =) Nice CR ~ But err, we have to cook our own meals ? I guess we need holychef. haha ~

Err and also, there's a lot of things you can try, like err, queeeeniessssssssss ~ Btw is the current there strong ?
