CR: CNY 2nd day fishing.

Post by afternoonfish »

I must thank HLF for the tamban hooks tying instructions, also must thank a few kakis who gave me some pointers. Im aware im not the only person in the world who tie my own tamban rig. However on that day, i had double achievements because i caught the most number of tambans in my record. Furthermore, my first rig produced good results and paid off my efforts. :)

It all happened at BJT.

Thumbs up for putting that effort into tying tamban hooks, I know how time consuming it can be because I tie my own rigs too. I notice the tambans are quite plentiful at BJT recently and some are pretty big as well. The fish in the second picture is actually a type of anchovy (related to ikan billis). Its superior mouth does make it look like a threadfin though. It's possibly this fish but some of them I've caught recently there seem to be more slender.

Welcome to HLF afternoonfish and congrats on your tamban haul. We hope to see more catches from you. ;)

Welcome to HLF afternoonfish ! :rootbeer:

That's a very good start !
Those tambans make a very good meal and very good baits too !
Wrap them up in newspaper to preserved freshness and you can use them as baits.
The size of tamban hooks simply puts me off so I usually buy instead of tie. :p
It's great to know you actually tie your own tamban hooks.
And thanks for sharing your CR with us in HLF. :)

Many people would deep fry the tambans and eat them whole. It's up to you if you want to gut or even descale them, it can be quite a troublesome. My friend and I once tasted crackers made from tamban offered by a fisho auntie, it's really nice and doesn't have any fishy smell at all. :D

Tamban sure is bony ... it is also extremely chow chor ...
Meaning it has this fishy smell.

The clue is to cook it till you can eat it as a whole.
I don't know how my mum cook it ...
I only know she marinated it with assam and duno what else ...
Fried it till it's so crispy you can eat the whole fish including the bones.
Not the extremely big size one ah ... don't get choke !

Tamban soup is something new to me ...
It will be interesting if we know the recipe ... ;)
