Day of the Diamonds

After a long break from saltwater, I went back to visit my old spot. The place is pretty much the same but they're more people fishing. Armed with live prawns that day, I was hoping to land a chermin for dinner. The water level was very low but the tide was coming in as I did my first cast. Within 10mins, my rod took a bow and greeted my first chermin.
The good start encouraged my enthusiasm to keep my eye on my rod but nothing happened for awhile so I went to do some handlining. It was then another smaller chermin took my line, having gut-hooked despite the use of circle hook. As the tide tips over the peak, I moved to another spot as I have left with quite a bit of prawns. I managed to land another two chermins consecutively, it almost seems like a school of them had just passed by.
There was no more action as the tide receded further and it was a sign to call it a day.
The overall catch
A tiny coral trout caught on sabiki jig.
I caught its bigger brother on handline as well.

Thanks for the comments guys, I let the coral trout off since it's the catch so extraodinary good that day. I don't think I will have a catch like this again though.

Yes, coral trouts are actually more commonly found among reefs and rocky areas. You can find them in shallow near shores or in deeper offshore waters too. I don't really 'surf' as my rod is only 6 feet long, so you can imagine the distance I can cast without the prawns 'flying' out.
So it's really quite close to shore but bear in mind the distance to cast often depends on the terrain of your fishing ground.

That's a very nice haul ... *drools
So ... when I was pulling up amber jacks, you were sweeping the diamond in home waters !
Let's see how you can make this year's NDP even more special than this ...

I knew you are eyeing my small diamonds, they're mine!
NDP trip is a must but I must say the recent years hasn't been too kind on us.
