Allow me to start this thread on this special day, Singapore's 42nd Birthday.

Let's see how far we can go by year 2008.

Sure Jess, if Angelfishing has no objections. Allow me to start the first catch report here.

A fishing trip with a friend yesterday with hopping between a few of our old spots. The first fish of the day is a tiger grouper caught on handlining and was released.


Upon reaching another spot, we're in luck to hook up a green eye squid on squid jig. We both knew exactly what we must do with it - use it as an ultimate bait for surf fishing!


We then moved again to a spot with potential biggies where the squid can be used. My friend didn't waste anytime and used it as soon as he got there. Sure enough, his reel alarm went off after not too long of waiting.


I was at a distance away from my friend when he caught the fish, so I didn't managed to take a clip of the fight. I only could take a short clip of the shark struggling as it surfaces.


I'm not quite sure with the identification of this shark yet. At first we thought it's a nurse shark, but after some looking up when I got back, I believe it could be a Brownbanded Bamboo Shark. Not quite the fish my friend is hoping for, but he sure enjoyed the fight. I on the other hand, am more than happy to see this sharky because I can snap a specimen photo of this new fish. Neither of us wanted to bring back the fish so we released back into the sea.


Throughout the day, we did handlining to catch small but quality fishes for dinner. The catch wasn't that bad but would have been better if the wind would tuned down a bit. The strong wind makes it difficult to fish, especially when using handlines.


Overall, it has been quite an enjoyable day. National Day has always been a lucky day for us to fishing, we'll be back for more next year.

Why was the grouper released? Is it too small for comsuption or any other reason?
Very good catch indeed, definitely an enjoyable outing you guys had.
Hopefully, Angelfish wouldn't mind another competitor racing towards the finishing point.

Why was the grouper released? Is it too small for comsuption or any other reason?

The grouper is about 500g which is pretty decent size, but we just don't like to eat this particular species of grouper. We only keep what we want to eat and release the rest regardless of size.

First posting in HLF ... a small small grouper to share with all




Went for a short luring trip with some friends.
Spot hopping from one to another.
Finally caught a small grouper with pinky from pro hunter.

A sexy lady who was with us today, bought 2 angel kiss.
3 of us were luring side by side. A cuda wack the lure and head for the 100m run.
Missy reaction was fast enough to thumb the reel forcing the fish to pause.
Fish swim from left to right ....reel Zzzt .... Zzzt ....
When everyone thought the fish sure to be landed ...
whoo hoo .... line cut by sharp barnacles !

Missy feed the fish with lure for the second time in a day.

Nice catch today, seems like you've got better luck than me. Not much of a story to tell for today's catch, I went fishing again with my friend and we caught a spanish flag snapper each.

Shame on the fishes, bullied a decent beginner. Was over the moon when this razor sharp teeth tail dancer perform a ' ballet on the water '. Too bad we were chased out for not paying the admission fees.

I will not tolerate such humiliation again, i'll be back armed with harpoon and torpedo, we shall see who gets the last laugh.

Enjoyed the evening with 3 Macho, Manly, Stylo gentlemen.

I'm learning to be a HeadHunter!

So ... which will boils down to only fishing (maybe) once a month ....

Good luck with your new job Desley, fishing once a month must be a torture...at least for me. Organize a big trip every month to make up for it, like a hard scratch on a long itch.
