Glad to see that the small ones are still abundant down at west coast
Intending to use all as bait, anyone got suggestions on where?

You could try using the whitings as bait for stingray! Apparently from the various people who surfcast in SG, i've heard that the whiting is the best bait for stingray. Alternatively you could deep fry them and get a tasty snack out of it

It's good to see West Coast Park still so productive, maybe you can try night fishing using the whitings as bait at the other southern spot from your previous catch report. I've seen Rays there before.

Will other fishes take the whitings? And how close to shore do large rays come?

I think large rays wont have problems coming close to shore, but those really huge ones may be in deeper water, maybe 15-20m out
As long as theres lots of sand, there should be rays haha
You can try using a wire to thread your whitings so they dont get torn off during the cast or when the fish hits hard
As for what fishes may hit the whitings, you never know, depends on the size of the bait I guess. Since the rig will be a bottom rig, most likely get catfishes, maybe big snapper and groupers too

Yes, pretty much what murasame said. Rays do come very close to shore, in fact most of their main source of food like shellfish are most abundant close to shore.

You might want to cast far out and when retrieving your line, make sure to do it extra fast! Labrador is notorious for having lots of snags there. Hope you land a big one and share the story

Seems like everyone is on fire today! I wanna head out to the local jetties to fish but i'm bogged down by my essays
Well done with the whitings again! the silver fish might be a barramundi or a pelagic fish, sometimes when baiting with small hooks you tend to get the rare appearances of such fishes. There was this once i was at sungei api api fishing and this uncle was using small hooks to get small fishes to feed his fishes or cats and he had a hookup on a barramundi and the line snapped halfway

Could it have been a cuda or kbl that tried to snipe your small fish on the hook? You should get your tackles ready for them the next round.
Nice catch btw.

Woah well done
I want to fish wcp soon since I live in the west too, but the park kind of big and i dont know where to fish from haha
If the bait was a small piece of prawn, maybe it was a trevally? Do those even appear around wcp??
Or maybe like peace said, you may have hooked some small fish which attracted a kbl or barra which both seem to be wcp residents haha
Maybe next time u can try throwing out one of those smallies as live baits to attract whatever may have attacked your tamban rig...

Drop me a pm if you're up for wcp fishing any time soon
Trevallies do frequent at wcp, I've personally seen quite a few landed around the area so that might have been it.
