Southern Islands 1010-2009
yo Peace!
Last minute decision to go for offshore trip with lao bawang, Peter, boarding at RSYC... Trip with Woofie nia, together with Bawang and friend... Hehehe... Bawang's friend keep landing choco hind on his electric reel...
Here are some pics. Grats to Woofie for landing dunno what fish it is, Trevally or something, but its huge! ON HANDLINE!! HIP HIP HURRAY! Estimated about 3 - 4kg!
Woofie said, "Peter, I think my line sangkot..." There it goes! Woosh!
I pulled the handline to see if kanna sangkot, then "Peter said, ah Belle, mai kay kiang..."
*tiny nag nag*
Soon as Uncle Peter took over the line, Woofie's handline went :: *piak piak piak piak piak piak*
Fish was up and everyone was cheerful!

Uncle Peter re-anchored boat, wind strong, current strong... ... ... ... ...
Next... ...
Uncle Peter say, "Loh sua... Xiao xin. Zhe li you da yu... Here is jio beng spot..."
He said then,
"Aiyah...?"
"Hao xiang you dong jing"
*piak piak piak, piak piak piak piak piak!*
Uncle Peter landed 2++kg eng gor on 12lbs handline...

Later on, Uncle Peter landed a KBL on 12lbs handline with a bunch of grass... Woofie got excited again, "Belle where is the cam? Take a pic! History repeats itself!"

We didnt have chance to take any pics of Woofie and I eagerly waiting to jig kunings at our final 2 spots...
We were so eager till Uncle Peter said, "Deng xia, deng xia! Wo jiao ni diu, ni men cai xia!"
End of day, went back to club, bathe... Went for dinner at coffeshop at West Coast...
Woofie and I had a great time cleaning fish... Heheeh, my fingers are all poked and injured liao...
Enjoy our pics!

Re: Southern Islands 1010-2009
It was my first attempt using handline on a offshore trip. Cool.... I am in love with handline! Thanks to Belle...
Oinkie did not join us due to work but he sacrificed his sleep to fetch me from the east to west early in the morning 7am. Thanks Oinkie!
When we reached west coast hawker ctr for breakfast, sky started to turn dark followed by thunder! I called Belle she said it was raining in Bt Panjang.
Kinda worried, praying hard for the rain to go away. When we reached the club, the sky was clear and we were ready to set off. Enjoy the pics.
History repeat?
Peter's kbl and "jit bu hao cao"
Parrot in net
Peter had a strong take on his handline... fish gone.. hongkong hook also gone!
Belle also had a big one too .... wah hen zhong! hen zhong!... she pulled up a big batu!
Beautiful sunset
Our catches
Dinner
Why is Belle so happi? Becos this fish can feed her for 1 week!

Re: Southern Islands 1010-2009
I must say it's catches and pics like these that lowers my resistance to Belle's invitation. It's been a long time since I've actually went out on a boat that caters to handline fishing, and they aren't many out there. Very good catch despite the bad weather, Peter evidently an old bird in handlining to land those biggies with light lines. Does he happen to have an elder brother name Philip?
Congrats to woofie for getting a prize catch, an exciting start to learning handlining. You can learn a lot by just observing how Peter tackle the big fish.
Handlining is pretty useful to learn although they're not as versatile as rod/reel. Think of it like how soldiers still need to learn unarmed combat despite they will be mostly using rifle in times of war, but there will be times when the unarmed combat comes in handy.

Re: Southern Islands 1010-2009
That looks like the work of a big pufferfish, believe me they crunch lead like eating chocolates. I had similar encounters as well and they can even bend hooks in ways you cannot imagine.
The boon nang looks delicious, they have plenty of meat and goes well in that curry. I sure would like to have some that right now. I love kunnings too, they're my favourite scad and I love them hot and crispy. That yellow tail is pretty big, was it caught on sabiki jigs?
Re: Southern Islands 1010-2009
Nope. It was caught on hong kong hook.Peace wrote:That yellow tail is pretty big, was it caught on sabiki jigs?
