Memorable Sedili Adventures

Post by dBs™ »

How time flies ...
It's three years since our first trip to Tanjung Sedili for deep sea fishing. :yay:

A trip that start us off for deep sea fishing and the yearn for bigger and stronger fishes to fight.
We have picked up some many tips from our unselfish Malaysian kakis and experienced many many first.
It was more like a learning adventures for us.

The first time we fished in water deeper than Changi.
The first time we use size 7 hooks, not one but two.
The first time we use live selars as baits.
The first time we uses crabs to catch Parrots.
The first time we see the teeth of parrots as big as my own. 0.o
The first time we fish more than a day on a boat.
The first time we fish away from home.
The list just goes on and on ...

As I re-do these CRs ... the images just flow back to me ... scene by scene ...
I felt like I am fishing in Sedili now ... how we wish we are in Sedili now !

I remember clearly ...
The 2nd morning when I woke up ... I begged Simon to take me home. ::x:
I felt so tired and shagged out all I wanted was to go home. lol !

We set out in two boats ...
Me and Simon was alloted to the smaller boat with the more experience father as the captain.
With 11 anglers and boatmen on board the smaller boat ...
It rained on the 2nd nite, the cabin was barely enough for all of us to hide.
I literally fell asleep under the drizzling rain after taking 2 tablets of Novomins.
All I remembered was Simon holding a plastic sheet over me and I slipped into a deep deep sleep. :o

This is however the trip which started us off for big game fishing.
Once bitten ... you will never turn back.
We have tasted the joy of pulling up big fishes ...
even the fun of jigging for selars had us submerged in indescribable joy.

We were so addicted to Sedili ...
We had five trips within the first year.
As always ... we only use Pak Arif and none others.
Thus building a really good relationship with the boatman, both father and son. :D

Hit the iron while it's still hot ... we returned for a second trip within two weeks. :p

This time ... we had along with us James who enjoys fishing as much as we do.
Having learn the mistake of not bringing sufficient baits ...
We had with us a whole ice box full of crabs.
Sadly ... parrot was no where in sight and the crabs were eventually end up as buffets for the fishes.

That's fishing I guess ... when you have enough they don't bite.
When you have one last bait ... the big one comes along.

This trip was very eventful.
First I had lots of fun with the bullet fish.
They were strong and good runner peeling lines off my reel real fast.
We witnessed how a 2500 reel can landed a huge ray.
Of course there were smokes in the air and we had to pour water to cool the reel down.
Took the angler a good hour before we saw the face of the beautiful shovel nose ray.

James was so lucky ...
Just hours before we bid goodbye and return home ...
He playfully tried his luck baiting for a tenggirri.
He had his wish answered.
He landed a 8Kg tenggirri on 1st attempt using a dead selars pissing off the other two anglers
who were trying to land their first since morning with live baits.

The encounter with the sea turtle made this trip all the more interesting and memorable.
It is also my fist experience coming up so close to a wild sea turtle.
It was such a beauty.

That said ... ends the 2nd chapter to the Sedili Adventures. :D

A trip we shared with our long time kakis, loomis.
It's his first trip to Sedili.
After the trip ... I remembered clearly what he said ...
"it's so tiring ... can't imagine the hard work of a fisherman at sea ! "

It's not a very good trip but still see all the ice box filled to the brim with fishes, selars aplenty.
We had a real fun time hooking up the big fat selar with jigs.
It's pretty fun especially when the jig had a "full house"
It's not an easy task trying to lift 8 crazy selars trying to break free.
The excitement when you drop the jig into water and the jerking feeling when it reaches mid-waters ...
Fishes strewed all over the floor coz everyone was busy unhooking selars.

The trip started with a very slow day.
I was the only one who registered a double whammy.
Two Ebeks landed one after another.
I was happy and glad I managed all that ... by myself without any help.
And the boys can only stare in envy while I enjoyed the fight of an Ebek !

Here's a short video clip of seagulls attacking bait-fish

Desley and his wife, Kevin and Ohara joined us in this fishing trip at Sedili.
We took a van transport arrangement this time instead of driving in ourself.
I clearly remembered we had to lead the driver into the "suah bah" as he is not familiar with the route
to the jetty hidden among some palm tree plantation.

What made this trip memorable ... let me recall ...
Yes. We almost had to U-turn n go home ! :sweatdrop:
Why ?
As we had more anglers on this trip ... we decided to use the son's charter with a bigger boat instead.
Everything went smoothly till we were some distance away from the jetty ...
The engine played tantrum and refused to moved !
Out of desperation ... the son radioed his father to come in with the small boat and take us fishing.
We ended up with the smaller boat with many anglers all squeeze together. 0.o
But glad we did not have to detour and go home as we chartered a van ! phew ....

Kevin Ng was the lucky man of the trip.
With a tiny slice of fresh squid ... he reeled in a 14.5Kg Grouper.
Even the boatman was surprise at his catch.

I had a surprise catch too ... landed my first Dorado.
It was really fun playing with a dorado.

We had plenty of fun with the selars as usual.
Brining home plenty too.

I must praise myself here that I can actually remember so much details.
Like the saying goes ...
picture speaks a thousand words.
As I review each picture and recapture the events one by one ...
everything just unfold and flow back into me like it was just yesterday.

Hope you guys enjoy these CRs ...
As they help me to remember those wonderful times I had with all my kakis. :yay:
