Chia Soon Kelong

A 2nd trip to Chia Soon Kelong with a new kaki via partner's forum, wat-the-fish.
11 of us together with 2Kg of live prawns in 4 bags ...
We were at the Kelong by noon time but half of our live prawns didn't make it due to the hot weather.

The same familiar faces greeted us ... as we were the first group to arrived ...
We got to choose where we wanted to rest ... and of course the best fishing spot too !

Didn't expect any other goup to be with us as it's a weekday trip ...
We found out later that another group of 15 pax will be joining us at the Kelong.
Still not too bad coz most of them don't fish ...
And we have almost the whole Kelong to ourselves ...
Plenty of space to roam around with.

Quickly took to our position and all started hooking up different varieties of catches.
We were taken by surprise at the bite rate ...
Started to worry if we will have enough of live and "live dead" prawns to keep us going till midnight !

Tan surprised everyone with a Tiger Queen Grouper on handline !
Yes ... it's a mixed between two grouper species targeting Hongkongese dinners ( * according to the Kelong owner).
But the new breed didn't impress the Hongkongese thus the "tiger queen" end up living and breeding around the Kelong.

The rare catch lifted everyone's spiritz !

Open Sasame !

Didn't get to play in this magical hole on our last trip ...
We spend a lot of time digging the black gold out of it this trip.
I call it the magical hole ... you be surprise what is lurking beneath it ! :shh:

With some borrowed fishing lines from Oinky ...
Just enough to reach the sea bed and a little extra inches of spare lines ...
It gave us hours of fun with the simple "handline" tie to the sofa chair ...
Just in case a biggie decide to come play with us. lol !

We were kept busy throughout the hot afternoon ...
Hooking up one fish after another.
We almost lost count of the varieties which we landed by evening time.

The big one always strikes when you are not paying attention !
Just when everyone of us were sitting around relaxing and waiting for dinner to be served ...
Simon yellow banana rod went ting ting ting ... the siren swept through the air took everyone by surprise.
For the initial seconds ...none realize it was a big hook-up.
Simon was still enjoying his bun !
It only sets in when the ting ting ting went faster and harder ....
And soon ... without giving him a chance to fight ...
It was game over !
200m of line almost hit bottom and he decisively thumbed the spool and the hook line snapped.

It was an exciting espisode nevertheless and kept all of us talking about it till dinner time ... :D

A beaming Crist with her first Leopard Ray !
Though not landed by herself ... she did spend a good 2 hours figuring out the rig and tying it herself.
I was a bit worried half way through fighting the fish when I found out she tied the rig herself. lol ! ::x:
Well ... her perseverance paid off and I must praise her for the effort.
She is surly one lucky angler to be.

Time passed so quickly ....
It's time for the famous porridge breakfast.
Waited for everyone to be ready and join us at the breakfast table ...

It was indeed a very fun filled trip way out of our expectation.
What we missed out on the first trip were well repaid on this 2nd trip.
We got lucky with an uncle who struck 4D and extra food went on the house !

Ice box was filled to the brim with our catches ..
It was a enjoyable trip with plenty of excitement to remember of.

One and only Video of the trip ...
Landing of the fish was not captured in video as all were very excited about the landing of a big fish during diner time !

The Kelong does get a little more of my interest now. ::x: The ray is a good catch, Crist finally has her wish. ;) You guys must leave her hanging on her own the next time. dBs, can you post more pictures of this Tiger Queen grouper, it looks a lot like a typical tiger grouper.

Thanks for sharing this wonderful catch report and introduction to this Kelong, I'm sure many who seen this will now want to book a trip there. There seems to be quite many species of fishes that can be caught there as well.

Good Lucky to you pyl . :clover:

We will be here waiting for your CR.
Remember the side you guys were fishing the last time we went with you,
... any point on that side is good ! :shh:

Peace ... that is definitely a cross breed between a Tiger and Queensland grouper.
I call it Tiger Queen !
Don't think you want to include it in the fish id list as yet unless they swim across the straits and come breed in our waters.
Anw ... you have the pics.

The pictures you sent me really does look like a cross-breed, I'm not really for commercial farmers cross-breeding fishes and have them escaped into the while though. Mother nature won't approve of this.
