Rompin Sail Fishing ~ Oct 2011

Post by dBs™ »

Two years ago this time of the year ... We experienced for the first time the power of Rompin Sails !
The thrill of flying lines and screaming reels ... making you to become hysteria.

Here's the link to the trip we had in 2009 : viewtopic.php?p=10778#p10778

Two years on ... we decided to return for another round of Sail's Thrill.
Main objective of this trip is for Crystal to have a first hand experience of pulling in a BIGGIE.
We were deciding between Sails and Bangkok kitties ... and final decision was Sails !
She was extremely excited about this trip. I would too ... :p

Macko, our fishing guide had everything arranged.
Together with Vidic joining my family of three, we set off to Rompin in one car.
It was a comfortable ride to and fro, stopping for late nite suppers.

We have engaged for Ah Liang's ex helper, Ah Pui's service.
He is a boat owner now and we were very happy fishing with him.
For those who were with us in 2009 ... we are not Teochew but we can speak Teochew okay !

To begin the Rompin Sails 2011 CR ...

It's Mission Accomplished on day one !

Crystal landed her first Sail on first try. Well done darling !

She almost didn't make it for the trip. She was running a terrible fever.
Luckily the fever came down by midnite and after a good night's rest ... she was fine and we allowed her to come along.
She had the honour to play the first sail and she did us proud to land it.

Begin the day with the usual hustle and bustle of Rompin jetty.
All boat-mans with fully loaded plain water and anglers set off in a hurry to catch bait fish.
It was yet another new experience for Crystal.
Vidic was enjoying the tug tug feel. We filled the live well with swimming baits quickly and went off to search for sea birds.
Yes ... look out for the birds ! When there are birds, that's where the Sails are ~

Sails are still aplenty in Rompin, big ones small ones.
But one thing for sure ... they have learnt their lesson ... getting smarter and harder to "catch".
Nevertheless ... anglers have outsmart the Sails and all went home with a prized photo.

While some are busy with the Sails, others are having fun with the rockets.
Rocket squid that is ...
I forgo Sails and was playing squid whole time ...
That split second when they come steal your bait was thrilling enough to keep you asking for more.
And one of the notti rocket actually got angry and spat ink at me and the boat ...
HELP ! I got panic remembering what happened 2 yrs back ...
Luckily .... I was not given a lecture, instead Ah pui helped me to clean up the inky mess. :o

Bottom fishes aplenty ...
Enough to keep all of us busy ; ang go li, han tze hurr, trevally, cobia, cuda and not forgetting the pricy tenggirri !
We landed a few small tenggirri and Macko get to keep them for his baby.

Next up ... our dinner !

It was a right decision to play bottoming on day two, a brand new experience.
And I must say ... once bitten ... there is no turning back.
Or should I put it ... we found our-self another spot to play bottom fishing ? :D

We were accompanied with choppy sea, very unusual compared to what we experienced two years ago this time of the year.
It's almost dancing rock and roll most of the time ...
Waves come strong and hard rocking the boat from side to side.
We ended the trip much earlier as we do not want to say harlo to high waves.
We can always come back on another day ... but that will likely be in 2012 !

Ah Pui, the boatman refused to let us go so easily ... stopped half way at some spot and spin a few throws with his jig.
Guess what ... that's the last time he see that jig of his. lol !
Finally "died heart" and he went full speed ahead ... time to head home to the jetty. yippy ~ :music: :music: :music:

Simon got his wish ... great fishing and delicious food.
It is almost eat eat eat most of the time for this man ... hehehe :p

Dinner for day two was at a beach front restaurant, a rather ulu place facing a long long stretch of beautiful beaches.
The sandy beach stretches out all the way meeting the horizon ... beautiful scenery in a small town.

Food at this "ülu" restaurant run by a family was surprisingly cheap and good.
A table for five with two fish from our catch of the day ...
Bill came up to just RM$58 !

A sumptuous meal ended a fun filled trip for us ...

We will be back in 2012 ! :yay:

Hahahahah, i love this pic, its amusing !

First of all, would like thank dBs for organizing this trip. It was fun, fun and FUN. We had great food and fishing company, its basically like a eating session from JB to Rompin and fro ! lol ! Many pit stops along da way to enjoy different muslim delights. Especially, the first stop, "bird meat" !?!?!?!? ::x: i wouldnt want to eat again, lol !

For me, it was 2nd time in Rompin for sails, it is a great experience, those who have not try pulling the sails, u should try it ! It is a total different feeling from fishing in Singapore, :D After 1 trip, i bet u dont wanna catch those gao heur, ang chor anymore haha  even jigging for bait fish is fun enough !

Ang Gao !!! *slurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrp* !!! :p
Fishing is unquestionably a form of madness, but happily, for once bitten, there is no cure. --Francis

Your catch report really brings out the Rompin Sails. Crist must be overwhelmed by the line peeling from the Sail fish, that's going to be an addiction for her. ;) Great videos too, is there one on dBs reeling in the sails? The bottom fishing looks great, and by that I mean the ang gao.

I am too lazy to do all the coordination and arrangements ...
Being using Macko (Andy) since a long time ago ... he is a fishing guide based in Singapore.
Don't expect the cheapest price but rest assure you get the best lodging, food and fun fishing all arranged for you.
He has plenty of trips through out the year, Rompin, Miri, Alor to Burma Banks ...
Came back recently from Alor with giant doggies @ 30Kg and GT, big game fishing that is ...

Anyway ... his contact : 9675 3136 ( Andy )
