We usually play running rig ... you need a "gadget" like the blue bead tamban is holding in the below pic :200907 wrote:hey i would like to ask what rig u guys using? and what size of hook ? i want to try boat fishing .
Selling at Changi pro ... ask the sales to show you how to rig it.
I am sure they will be more than happy to show you =)
For offshore, LSBF or Apollo rig works fine.
LSBF : http://www.handlinefishing.com/howtofis ... rigs/lsbf/
Apollo : http://www.handlinefishing.com/howtofis ... gs/apollo/
Hook size, go for 2/0 - 5/0 depending on where you fish.
For Changi waters, you can go for 2/0 or 3/0.
There is a lot more to just what rig and what hook size ...
The best way to start off ... tag along a trip and learn from the regulars.
All you need is a set of offshore rod and reel and you are good to go ~

Re: 南.部.土.产 !
I would suggest a pe1-3 or 2-4 rod paired with a size 4k reel for starters. Your 1000 reel is too small, in case of sangkot, u will still have enough lines to play with, as for the rod, u need to tahan siZe 4-10 for change waters
Re: 南.部.土.产 !
Hmmm ... interesting reel ...
Just wondering if this is the one :
http://hypermetal.blogspot.com/2010/10/ ... iking.html
Without looking at the reel specs ... simply looking at reel size 1000 ... it will be a straight no.
But after looking at the specs ... it might just be able to make it for offshore use.
What we usually afraid of is insufficient line, a small spool will spell into less line.
Generally, reel size of 3000 or higher can be used for offshore fishing.
If you are good and looking for thrill fishing, you can try 2500 size reel.
That's the lowest you can go for local offshore.
Can be a little challenging if you hit Southern shore with it.

Re: 南.部.土.产 !
If you're not sure if the reel can be used in certain waters, try loading the setup with different sized sinkers. See what's the maximum size sinker you can comfortably crank up and you can roughly know what type of water it is suitable for.

For first time, it's better to join a group that are experienced in boat fishing. You can learn faster and avoid costly mistakes with someone guiding you. If you're eager to fish soon, you can try fishingkaki "kakis looking for kakis" section for open slots.
If you really do prefer to charter a boat yourself, try Ah Chong from Changi. His boat is nothing glamourous but he's quite reputable and his charter cost less than 300 dollars. You can look up his contact in the fishing charter directory.

Re: 南.部.土.产 !
What's the specs on your ajn rod? Shimano 2500 is a little small, it's usable during slow current/wind in changi waters but you may find it a little underpowered when you need to crank heavier sinkers at the Southern Islands.200907 wrote:yea , thats my reel ...so is my rod suitable? i planning of buying Stradic CI4 2500.saw the price $345 ...

Re: 南.部.土.产 !
That rod pairs well with a 2500 reel but they're both a little on the light side. A 10-25lbs rod paired with a shimano 4000 reel will be a better choice. A 20-35lbs setup will have better coverage especially for places where you need to use heavy sinkers.
