Im using monoline of 20lbs on my reel...
Will my weapon be good for boat fishing????
This is the 1st set of question i will be asking if its ok then i will ask a few more question if not then i will stop here.....

Ok here goes ...
Jupiter Safari is a 9FT ROD ! 
Looks more suitable for shore fishing to me leh ...
The length can post a problem for you when fishing on boat.
Generally for boat fishing ... we do not cast, just drop.
Think this way ... we take a boat out ... boatman reach spot... we drop bait ...
Ain't we directly above the fishy home ? So there is no need to cast at all.
For local bottom fishing ... a good length will be 5'6" - 6'3"
There are of course different boat rod for different type of fishing like heavy bottom, light jigging etc etc
We will just base our discussion for something suitable for Changi waters for now ...
Do you have any shorter rod where you use for in-shore fishing ?
It's not necessary to use a boat rod for offshore but it is definitely good if you have one.
But since it's your first trip, we just see if you can use any of your existing rod.
Reel ... should have no problem coz I did a check and it has 6kg Maximum Drag and Line Capacity of 12lb/240m.
For boat fishing ... main concern when selecting a reel is line cap, how much lines can it load.
You need enough lines to bring your bait to the bottom of sea bed ... and still must have enough lines for fish to run ...
Taking you have loaded 20lbs mono lines ... estimate you should have 120m of lines in your spool ?
It all depends on line thickness to know estimated line cap.
So now your mission is to find a suitable rod to match your Sweepfire ~

I can lend you my Penn power stick if u want :X if I'm not wrong it's 5-6 ft 20-25/30 lbs, this was recommended by alleycat lol

Next Rod in line is a Seahawk Wee-Pro 6'.....Action:Medium Heavy.... Line:10-20lbs...
I thinks this will suit for Boat Fishing am i right....

Ok.. So the prawn of abt 3kg will be share among all the anglers am i right to say dat... As for sinker can u suggest what size of sinker should i get and how many do i have to get and any more offshore fishing stuff dat i need to get...

Edit: Yes. Everything transparent and cost sharing ... boat, bait and ice. Food and drinks own.
* Should we buy less prawns then cost will be reduced and divided accordingly.

Tide pattern for 23rd ...
Ting ting ting ... does it rings a bell ?
It's gonna be a tough day out at sea so kakis ... get ready for some hard fun ~
For first timer ... take an extremely light breakfast ... and be prepared for some rock and roll ! 
Tide will be at it's fullest when we set off early in the morning and going down fast and furious till we finish fishing at around 5pm.
So please prepare sinker size 4 and 6 ... if fly kite then combine two to make 10 ! 
* fly kite means strong current with drifting style of fishing, chances are the sinker will not touch sea bed ... flying like a kite.

Alright ... besides rod and reel, food and drinks ...
you will need the general fishing tools like leader, sinker, swivel etc etc ...
Let's talk about types of rigs we usually used in Changi waters :
As with any other bottom fishing, LSBF(Long Snood Bottom Feeder) or Apollo are the two common types of rigs used.
Say for example if we are targeting Chermin, apollo is better than LSBF.
Grouper, snapper we use lsbf.
There is however one more interesting gadget you might want to try out ...
Yes ... the bead !
If you interested to learn how to play with this colour bead thingy ...
It can be purchased from Changi Pro, 3 pcs in a pkt at $3.80 ( i can't remember the actual price )
It's displayed at the wall shelving directly opp the counter inside the shop ( behind the wall where the live prawns are )
And we will show you how to rig it on the day itself.
One pkt is more than enough unless you are sangkot king ... lol !
Ooh ... not to forget ... hook size we using 1/0 - 3/0

Ok thanks dBs for the info....
BTW i went to joe's today and saw this rod @ $35/- it is seahawk rod of abt 5'-6' long and hv a medium heavy action rod which was place @ the front of the shop will it be suitable for boat fishing....
And also last question whats the best line for offshore fishing is it mono or braided line????
Coz thinking if this 1st offshore fishing really make me hook to it maybe i wanna do a 2nd set of fishing gear for offshore...Lets put it this way 1 set for shore and jetty fishing and 1 set for boat fishing so ttl i will hv 2 set and i wont hv the hassle to keep looking for stuff everytime i wanna go offshore as i already set it aside.... and go thru the hassle again to go for shore and jetty fishing...

Hi Newguy, do take note of the ratings of the seahawk rod(For eg, PE1-3 or 10lbs-25lbs). This will help us determine whether the rod is suitable for which usage. Also consider the weight of it, cause u are gonna hold on to it for the whole day
u dont wanna have cramps while a fish takes ur bait ya ? Seahawk is an ok brand to start off with for a beginner, just dont misuse it. Besides, seahawk u also could consider Penn, eupro rods, they are good rods with a reasonable price to start with.
Braided lines are more preferred for offshore fishing.
Yup i do keep offshore sets and shore fishing sets, but i still make reuse the reels though, for eg 5"6 off shore rod with size 4000 shimano reel i could alternate with a lets say 8-10 ft shore rod.

I think that will be it for me to ask as its still to early... And i think when the day comes i will meet u guys early as i can ask u guys for more info of offshore fishing and wad to buy and get it on the spot... So u guys can oso show me the considerable stuff to get there.... As i wont be blur buying myself....

Sure do, we could do some shopping before we board, the experts like dBs and tambam will advise u, just be early, lets say reach around 7am.
Have your breakfast and the tackleshop will be open by then. Its also cost saving ! cause u dont waste money on buying the wrong things. Just get your rod and reel(with braided lines) ready and buy the rest of the stuffs on the day itself, be sure to bring enough cash !

Oh yah for the braided line i'm using Daiwa Sweepfire 4000x...Would 30lbs of braided be good enough and wad the minimum weight for the shock and soft shock leader????
