After some hiccups ... 9 happy anglers set off with uncle Fong.

Uncle Fong was surprised to see Simon and myself standing at the jetty waiting for him ...
He was not informed we will be tagging in this trip which was booked by Tamban.
Love that big smile on his face when he set sight on us ~

Have to thank Tamban for making this last minute booking ...
else we could have just miss this year X'mas season fishing with uncle Fong.

And I have written Simon name on uncle Fong's calendar on 24th December 2012 ! ;)

It's the morning rush hours ...

Queuing up to make purchases at aunty's farm for live prawns and ice blocks.
And of course make a short tour to see her giant fishes too ...

Prices of ice blocks went up a little ... but well, what did not go up recently ?
Can't be worst than taxi fares and mrt fares ... lol !

All was excited and the weather "seems" good.
It was raining a little just the day before and the morning was dry with some wet air ~
Let's hope the fishes are starving after days of heavy down pour ...

*keep fingers all crossed !

YES !
Reach spot and tamban was first to pull up a nice size snapper ~ look at that signature broad happy smile !
Looks like we are set to a good start ...

Image

And Casey wifey was encountering some "trouble" ...
Yes... big trouble indeed ... coz she caught herself a fatty Mr Blue Spotted Ray.
It happened right after Tamban's catch and we thought it was a sangkot ...
Up came a pretty fish which send all dropping bait quickly ~

Things just unfold so quickly and fast ...
I was not even aware when Simon was fighting the next biggie, another fat fat ang kuey !

Image

I was kept busy running from front to back of the boat ...
Hianz ... want pic,no fish lor ... want fish how to pic ? hehehe :p

I was relaxing by the side deck sitting on my favorite tyre ...
Some little bait stealer hit and ran off with my prawn.
Reel up and asked Tamban to help pass me a prawn as he was just besides it ...
And guess what !?

He scoop me a teeny weeny "hae bee" from a whole tank full of prawns ~
And that's when the next surprise came along ...

I stood up and moved to the front of the boat to fish as it's getting a little too crowded in the back.
Was chit-chatting with our new friend Ryan ...
When I was about to help him checked on his line ...
I felt a light tug ... gave a quick strike with my left hand and the right quickly took over.
YES ! It's a hook-up no doubt.
Uncle Fong came quickly to my side with a net and all eyes were on me ...
I was excited ... coz somehow ... the feel was different.
But it is definitely a fish ... did not have time to reason out why ... and soon after some nice "fight" ...
A almost 2Kg grouper surfaced ... foul hook at the tummy !

Hmmm ... like this also can huh ? :shh:

Time ticked close to noon and things just died down when it started to pour like cats and dogs ...

We needed the service of a plumber to fix the tap ... it is not functioning properly ...
Rain going on off on off many times ...
Suddenly there is a little sunshine, next thing u are wet. 0.o

Image

During "break" time when the tap was not flowing ... we picked up fishes here and there ...
One by one ... breaking our egg ~ *clap clap

Best time of every trip ... Makan !

It's down to just 6 of us as Casey's girl was too tired.
And the mighty 6 with 5 strong men managed to polished off the big grouper and prawns were cook in two styles.
Tamban asked for drunken prawns and his wish answered.

Steamed prawns were sweet and juicy ~ best of the best !

We were charged $40 for the preparation of the fish and two dishes of prawns.
Total bill came up to about $15 each including drinks.

That grouper must be one of the unluckiest fish to get hooked on its belly, it didn't even got to taste the prawn. :( I believe the fish did try to strike the prawn but sometimes the hook/prawn spins in a wide circular motion when the hooking of the prawns got out of streamline.

Not a bad overall catch, at least everyone caught something. On an unrelated note, am I the only one who notice the block of ice look like a cuttlefish?

hmmm ... interesting, that ice block does look like a cuttlefish.
In fact someone did hook up one about that size, the pic not the ice block. lol !

Catch was consider good given the lousy weather.
Rain water from landfills and inland suddenly clouded the sea and the water just merged into milk tea.
After which fishes just won't bite any more ...
Keeping fingers cross for coming Saturday ! :clover:
