Crabs are scavengers, so they will eat anything that is dead, human flesh too! :P
So when buying baits, you dont need to get the freshest bait or wake up early just to go to the market and buy. Head down to your nearest grocery store eg. Shop and save. In the late afternoon an they will be clearing whats leftover from the morning. Heres what i sawImage
and heres what i got! :DImage

Grand total receipt! I left one pkt at the beer.. So had to check out twice ><

That's definitely a valuable tip, it'll save crabbers with quite a bit of money on baits. Shop N Save will also be happy to have customers like you. Thanks for sharing! :D

Will the crabs be more attracted if the bait is left out to rot?

I'm no crabbing expert but if it can attract more crabs, I believe it will be due to the rotting stench that increases attraction radius. This is also when the monitor lizards join in the feast if it's in a shallow or intertidal area.

i guess so.... went crabbing at west coast park and tried using rotten kunning. quite effective, attracted a big muddie. however, it was clinging to the bottom of the net and was eating the bait through the holes of the net .....:p
