Post by teamilk »

http://www.fishingbuddy.com.sg/imagelib ... sterra.pdf

am going for SAFYC event this coming sat...i don't know if my rod is able to 'tahan' the weight of the fishes to be caught.....current rod is Shimano Bassterra EV S56MH.
and i think my main line is only 20lbs...lead line i think is 40lbs..can't really remember cos my equipment rotting at home....lol..what's the max weight (of fish) i can hook up?
i'm thinking 8kg max?

it's gonna be my first offshore fishing trip! :yay:
hope can get good catches......

btw any fishing bros here going also?

thanks for reply!
hmm...so to say, my rod should be able to tahan but i have to change my line poundage?
lead line for sure will use higher poundage.......but as for main breaded line, mine is 20lbs, can withstand?
i scared my rod cannot withstand the fight then break, then my heart will break together.

S56MH is rated at 8-16lbs. 20lbs braided even though over the rod rating should be fine under most circumstances but may have problems with using sinkers heavier than 2 oz. Changi waters are rather shallow on most parts inshore but you may require to use up to 4-6 oz on days with strong current. The rod will probably lack lifting power against big fishes.

My opinion: a little too light but that's subjected to where you're fishing exactly.

a total of 8 of us went for the trip. we went out for about 10am - 7pm.
our total catch was
3 baby sharks
8 catfishes
1 giant milk fish
1 sweet lips

i had 0 bites throughout the whole trip. until almost last min before we are about to leave, i had a pull and i got a catch. the boatman was saying "wah......all the way never catch, last min catch, and catch the best one"
haha...yes i got the sweet lips.
it was the "more edible" one compared to the rest.

overall it was a fun and good trip. learnt ALOT from the boatman.
he taught us alot about the tackle, what to look for, what type of setup, what type of baits etc etc.....and also told us about his experience (13 yrs!) and his catches all these.

You can email me the picture and I can embed the image for you if you want. Just send it handlinefishing@gmail.com. As for the trip, take it as a learning trip. It's good to pay attention to what the boatman has to say and teach, remember it and put the info to test on your subsequent trips.
