Hi and welcome to HLF ~ :cocktail:

Just wondering where will you be fishing ?
Weather you be doing day or night fishing ?
Generally ... live prawns is a all rounder bait.
Fishes simply cannot resist the temptation of a live prawn.
It works well for both day and night fishing.

Other than live prawns, you can try fresh tamban, squids, wat wat ( a type of worms )
In fact ... it very much depend on your fishing spot and the species of fishes you are targeting.

You might want to provide more infos as to where you be fishing.
The charter you be taking etc etc so we can better advise you based on infos provided.

Cheers
dBs

Welcome to HLF, Geraud. For rigs, like dBs said it depends on where and what kind of offshore fishing you're doing. Two types of rigs commonly used for boat fishing will be apollo and LSBF, you can find information on both rigs in the main site. If you're leader is particularly long, you may want to use a ranggong jig so that your leader don't get all tangled up.

If you're doing general bottom fishing during the day, size 2/0 to 3/0 octopus hook will be the norm. If you're doing night fishing, you can go 4/0-6/0 depending on the size of bait (usually squid). If you're specifically targeting for large groupers from wrecks, you may use even bigger hooks.

Most tackle shops carry them, it's pretty common. Just ask the shop assistant to locate it for you. :) They do cost quite a bit so people don't typically use them when fishing in snaggy areas or for drifting.
