Just for thoughts ...

Post by dBs™ »

I was reply a post in WTF and this topic regarding Punggol caught my attention.
It's about advising anglers to clean up after fishing and not dirty the place.

Hmmm .... Punggol !
A wonderful fishing ground in the wild !
For those who fish there before some years back will understand the meaning of wild.
It's really a marvelous fishing ground.
From the high wall of Seventeen Avenue all the way to the jetty, stretches further down to Track 24;
and the forested part opposite lor harlus ...
It''s a small place in the extreme North Eastern side of Singapore, a place which holds many surprises.
It still does ! :shh:

I was there on Saturday for the first time since the closure of the area for major construction works.
Had in toll my two lovely Westies boys, we strolled from the jetty, all the way to the far back where the future reservoir is to be.
Along the way ... familiar sights and the sea breeze still brings this weird oil smell ! 0.o
The place is so woodland waterfront look-a-like ...
A beautiful patch of carpet grasses for us to just sit and relax under familiar old big tree.
Nicely laid wooden planks, water fountain and even the steps leading to the sea front acts as "seat".

BUT ...

As as walked further and further in ...
The ugly Singaporeans act came into sight. 0.o
Used tissue papers strewed everywhere along the yet to be completed wooden walkway ...
Discarded baits, hooks and lines ... left over food packets ...
Anglers even help decorate the railing with black and white cable ties.

WHY ...

It used to be in this state, not something new to us who used to fish around that area.
Some anglers will leave their unused baits hanging on the railings, left behind empty cans etc etc
The government had to deploy cleaners to the area to clean it up every few months ...
The place is so "wild", there's only anglers and sometime love birds who frequent the area.
Nobody really care if there were maggots, rats or rotten food smell !

NOW ...

The place is going to be one state of the art water font recreation area.
There will be posh restaurants by the sea with new walkways.
Why are people still doing the same old thing ?
The place is far from completion but it's already becoming a dumping ground again.

Why can't we Singaporeans be more considerate ?
I only have this to say ... we are so pampered, it's time to change.
People who travelled often enough will agreed ... Singapore ain't "CLEAN" at all !
It's the foreign cleaners who clear the streets everyday to keep us as A Clean & Green City.

Education starts from home.

For now ... enjoy fishing at Punggol as much as you can.
It will be a "forbidden city" to anglers when construction works complete in few years time.

Yes. What you bring there, bring it all with you when you leave.
That including your catches and the rubbish.

We used to bring big trash bags where ever we go ...
Be it the old Punggol or any other fishing spots.
Even offshore trip on Uncle Fong's boat.
I always have a black trash bag.

We keep our land clean, we also keep the sea clean.

A good singaporean starts from us :yay:
This act may change the government for taking away our valuable fishing spot
and decrease our chances of trespassing :D
Cheers to good singaporeans :rootbeer:  :rootbeer:  :rootbeer:

Yes, one direct impact of such irresponsible act is authorities banning the place from fishing. It's something many anglers do not realize. They will complain when a spot is closed by they never stop to think that it's their own fault. Singaporeans needs to be more considerate and do that extra bit to keep our surrounding clean instead of giving in to their own convenience.

I've recently took a hike into the remote parts of catchment area and not to my surprised that the rubbish there has increased dramatically which are evidently left by anglers. Do we really lack that self-discipline when no one is watching?
