It's not a bad combination nor an overkill and the reel looks nice. If your fishing style involves holding the rod often, you may want to consider a low profile baitcaster reel instead.

Nope I hardly hold onto my rod....But then when u say like that ure telling me that if I were to play luring I will end up tiring myself by casting and retrieving it before even I got a hook on a fish....

Is there any recommendation on a low prolific baitcaster that can really suit the rod that I post out...And btw do you know where I can get that rod coz the shop at bukit batok does not hv it...Going down to taman jurong and the shop at pasir ris pond this week to hv a look if they sell it.....

It all goes down to how you fish, some people like to let the rod sit there and bait while some like to spin the bait, not necessarily just artificial lures. In regards to overkill, it also depends on yourself what you want out of the fishing. Some anglers like to play ultralight till the fish is half dead to squeeze every little thrill out of the fight while some just want to land the fish. Of course there are also the in betweens.

As for low-profile baitcaster, you can take a look at shimano curado or Abu Revo MGX which only weighs 5.4oz. They're probably over your budget though.

The reel is probably fine but the rod is probably a little light and more suitable for shore luring use. By the way, the rod should be a Shimano instead of Daiwa. (Or does Daiwa has a cruzar too?) Still, it can be used for light offshore fishing like in Changi areas.

Hi

I'm really confuse what type of setup you need? One moment you post a pond setup the next moment you post an offshore setup. I would suggest you tackle one setup at a time. For me I will look at the spec first the decide what I need. There's no in-between setup, I will have different setups for different type of fishing.

Few threads back you posted you wanted a Daiwa Millionaire Classic for pond use. Do take a look at the specs of the reel.

Model: M-C250 DAI-0838
TD Code Retrieve Action: Right-Hand
FW/SW Bearings Gear: MH/M 2 BB
Ratio Line Per: 1RB 5.1:1
Handle Turn: 24.5''
Weight(oz.): 9.80
Line Capacity (lb. test/yds): 12/210, 14/180
Drag Max: 8.8lb (3.99kg)

Personally I feel this reel is more for luring. If you are looking at the web for rod and reel, do note that most of them will not be available locally. Best is you could drop by tackle shops tell them what you want and ask for their recommendations then go do your own research. At the end of the what type of rod and reel you own also got to depend on your pocket.

Cheers. Hope you find you ideal setup.

You just need to know that there are generally overhead reels and spinning reels. Overhead reels are often synonymous with baitcasters or multiplier reels. Not all overheads are designed for efficient casting but all of them can be used for bottom fishing subjected to required line weight. To further differentiate them, there's round and low profile. Round profile ones are those drum-like designed commonly used for bigger game fishing, but you can also see this design in inshore and lure fishing uses. Low profile reels are those flat looking overhead reels that are designed for finesse and comfort. Their body stays closer to the rod providing better balance, grip and they're often light in weight. This is useful for fishing that requires you to hold your consistently and working the rod, ie. luring. Such design also catered for inshore fishing reels too.
