that is just a hook that is "covered" with earthworm.... i mean you slowly push the earthworm over the hook so that your hook is totally covered by the earthworm

Yes, patrick is right. I used a mustad worm hook in that picture, it does help to fit more of the worm onto the hook with its extra long shank.

Yes, they can grow quite large even in canals. But biggest I've seen is from reservoir and I've witnessed one big tilapia getting whacked by a toman right before my eyes. :shocked:

lol this is the zebra tilapia. different from what you see in the canals lol

They probably can but maybe because canal waters are often shallow and they don't like it like tilapias do.

The fish you're referring to could possibly be a juvenile Mayan Cichlid. Thanks for showing the different variation in colours, are the brightly coloured ones male tilapias?
