Re: [Freshwater] Swamp Eel
I saw this eel at Nee Soon Long Kang before those stone walls were built. It was laying there in the water and I grabbed it.

Re: [Freshwater] Swamp Eel
Well, that depends the size of the eel doesn't it? But say for an adult eel, a size 10 hook should be suffice. It also depends on what type of terrain the eel is at. Swamp eels can make burrows along water banks, I had tried fishing for them in the past by putting bait just outside their burrow. Naturally, the eel took the bait and reversed into the burrow. I had a hard time pulling it out as it was anchored to its burrow.

Re: [Freshwater] Swamp Eel
Did you just leave the baited rig unattended or were you by the hole fishing for the eel? The eel's can give some nasty bite as well as chewing through line but it does take a while. You can use thicker mono or fluorocarbon lines which can better withstand the chewing. For hooks, don't use those intended for tamban jigs. They're pretty soft and open up easy. Try high carbon steel hooks or even just normal ones that are slightly thicker.

I believe the line is strong enough but not the hook. Invest a little on better hooks. I use this brand of hook for rabbitfish and yellowtails and find it pretty strong for its size, you can give it a try if you manage to get it. I bought it from Sincere.

Re: [Freshwater] Swamp Eel
This species of eel is not poisonous nor venomous and is often used for consumption, you can find that is at local wet market and Sheng Siong supermarket as well. They can bite though.afternoonfish wrote:Is this kind of eel dangerous; being aggressive or poisonous anywhere of its body? Because in new zealand there're monster eels which attack pple and have poisonous blood..

Those photos are rather okay, you're probably shooting them in a low light area which makes the camera performs poorly. Thanks for the contribution once again.

Re: [Freshwater] Swamp Eel
Do you have a picture of the eel? This eel won't survive in seawater, if it was the same eel it was probably swept down from a canal into the sea during heavy rains.

Re: [Freshwater] Swamp Eel
That is interesting, I look up fishbase and it does indicate that the swamp eel can live in brackish water as well.
