Re: Tiera Batfish
Welcome to HLF, Patrick. Those are big batfishes, I've never gotten one anywhere close to this size but I heard they're one heck of a fighter. Could you share with us what these batfishes are caught with? Thanks!

Re: Tiera Batfish
yes they are one heck of a fighter! they are also quite smart! you must be alert when waiting for a bite, cos if they only bite once. if you do not strike, your bait is gone. sometimes you don't even know that they have been eating at your bait! but once you get a hookup, your reel starts to scream! (THE TENSION WAS SET SO STRONG THAT USING YOUR FINGER YOU CAN BARELY PULL THE LINE OUT) Your line would keep running for about 2-3mins NON-STOP! And they have three tries to escape. First run, straight out. second run, straight down. last run, diagonally (out and down at the same time). if your line or hook does not break by this time, the fish is yours! They are easily caught simply by using a size 1/0 apollo hook with shelled prawn. i use 2 hooks together with a sinker at the bottom of the line. My experience, just let the sinker touch bottom, and reel in a few times so that the sinker is above the floor.
oh and remember to bleed it before letting it die as the meat would taste nicer this way

Thanks Patrick, that's some very useful information. I will have to remember that when I get a chance to fish for these bats.

Re: Tiera Batfish
I was hoping you can tell me! I've personally seen someone landed a big batfish over 5kg at Labrador Park breakwaters but I never had such luck in landing one that size. I do offshore as well but never encounter them either.patrick2405 wrote:hahas okays. hmm where you fish for them at? or any good fishing spots to share? pm me

Batfish !
I don't know why my Malaysian kakis didn't really like this species but I find them beautiful.
A great fighter it is.
I used to see them swimming in small schools several feet below our boat in crystal clear waters in Sedili.
Pretty hard to entice them to bite.
Caught one before and it was memorable.
I never expect a "small" fish had that kind of line pulling power.
And ... I was not in trouble then ... just you win or fish win lor ... I am serious too ...
