They can be found around the jetty all year round but it does seem to have more of them at certain times of the year, notably larger ones.

Bedok Jetty has lots of active anglers everyday, so fishes that decide to stay around the jetty will get caught eventually. Like all other predatory fishes, you'll find them more often when the bait fishes are plentiful and when the current is strong.

Saw a pair of enormous ones. Each of them were the length of my arm.

Those are about 2kg, not very common in BJT but they do come in from time to time. St John's island used to have these sizes in large schools but has since diminished from overfishing.

How do you successfully release one?

You have to remove the hook first but a common problem is that they're often gut hooked if landed. Prioritize your own safety over dislodging the hook, just cut the line if you're not confident in doing so and release it back. Cuts from their razor sharp teeth is pretty nasty.

Nice catch. One of the consistent species of fish you can catch there.
