Your rig and bait is probably correct, it's just not as common as you may expect it to be. Apollo small hooks with prawn meat usually nails it.

Welcome to HLF, SoggyCookies.
Ah. Thanks Peace! You're probably right, plus they're usually solitary unlike the many schooling fishes around the jetty hahahah. Cheers :)

I caught it on prawn meat, you can see that i caught a wrasse together with the Angelfish.

Personally, i do not find squid very effective, if it were i can save a lot of money on bait. lol

Ah. Thanks for your reply! I agree, I only use squid when the current is strong cause it's less likely to slide off the hook like prawn meat.

What hooks were you using?

Mustad Maruseigo size 4
be very careful you are considering it, they are extremely sharp.
I had accidents and needed medical assistance to remove them.

Looks interesting indeed, it's probably different from the usual black damselfish we catch. I will look try to look that up.
This is pretty late, but I just caught one at BJT yesterday afternoon as well.

Went to do some research on chromis and damselfishes and realized it's in a genus of its own- a species of demoiselle hahahah. It should be a Regal Demoiselle (Neopomacentrus cyanomos)

Hope this info proves useful to redeye and yourself, Peace!

Yes it certainly does look similar.

This site shows it in the exact same colours.

That's a Monogrammed Monocle Bream, aka Dua Bak Gor. Nice catch there!

Thanks Peace, it confused me because it didn't have the typical broken line pattern along the body.

Anyone here know what damsel species this might be? First time encountering it, and it doesn’t seem to be one of the more common scissortail, bengal or sergeant major.

I believe that's a Staghorn Damselfish (Amblyglyphidodon curacao). Good find!
