This fish is not native to our waters, their presence is contributed by escapees from fish farms up at the north and perhaps released by religious groups. These are one of the biggest species in the grouper family, they can grow as big as a few hundred kilograms.

I believe it was taken from a floating fish farm near Ubin.

That one is supposedly a hybrid between giant grouper and tiger grouper, bred commercially. These escapees made way into Ubin waters and are getting more common recently.

I believe those are called Sabah Grouper in English or Long Fu Pan in Mandarin.

The first and second link refers to different species. The latter is probably native while the former is a cross mating between a Tiger Grouper and a Giant Grouper. They don't occur naturally but are bred as such to get the good(for farming!) attributes of both species.
