A Card A Restaurant

Post by dBs™ »

A Card A Restaurant !

With this new "feature" ... let's hope more kakis will be able to share with us here in HLF
more good eating places which you have patronize.

A simple card with a few more words from you ...
Telling us if the food is good or bad, the service , the ambiance of the restaurant ...
or simply anything you wish to share with us about the restaurant.

Let me start the ball rolling with this one ... :D

Image

Food ... so so only.
Some selection of so call Taiwanese fares like 卤肉饭, noodles etc ...
Ordered the set lunch served in a wooden tray with rice, clay-pot chicken, some prickles and ikan billis with peanuts and a soup of the day.
I don't know why they served ikan billis with peanuts ... makes me feel like eating nasi lemak ... lol !
The clay-pot chicken ... I probably won't order again but the soup 连藕汤was good.

The pearl tea was a little disappointing.
Served in a plastic cup, like those we buy off the counter selling pearl tea.
Worst was the tea didn't taste like milk tea at all ... the simplest version of all pearl tea flavours.
No tea taste !
Luckily the pearl was chewy and honey sweet.

The service staff are mostly "aunties" ...
But their infos regarding the menu were good and very friendly people.

Good food at affordable price ... won't purposely make a trip for it though.
No harm giving it a try ... if you want some Taiwanese fares ... fast food style.

Just Acia - Best of Asia (this is what they claimed) serves Asian food, with a fusion of Thai, Japanese and Korean dishes.

Value for money set meals starting from $5.90. All set meals includes free flow of cappuccino, latte, mocha. hot chocolate, soft drinks, iced lemon tea, iced peach tea and ice-cream.
You can also choose from the ala carte menu and add $2.95 to enjoy the free flow of drinks & ice-cream. For HSBC card holders, check out the 1-for-1 promotion on weekdays!

We were greeted by the friendly staffs when we stepped into the restaurant. Placed order for Bulgogi Beef + Chicken Wings Set ($12.90) & Unagi Kabayaki Set ($13.90). The serving was generous, both set includes a bowl of miso soup, kimchi and rice. I love the beef bulgogi, tender and not overcooked. The chicken wings tasted very normal, jus like home-cooked wings seasoned with salt n deep-fried. The sauce on the unagi was a little too sweet but just nice when you eat it with rice. Overall, the food is worth the try for the price we paid. No service charge. Total bill was $14.87 (using HSBC credit card promo)

Nice place to chill out with friends. With the free flow of drinks, you can chat all night long til 11pm... Too bad no pets allowed.

We will try out the downtown east branch real soon... my makan kakis....r u ready?

Something a little different this time ...

Chinese style dessert ? :p

Wonder how many of you knew about this stall house at a corner in Chinatown Food Complex.
He sells only Chinese style cookies and only a few selection available.
The Sha Qima is a die die must try if you like this googy sweet sweet crackers shaped like a cube.
Sold in small and large packing.

He does sell other Chinese cookies like kok chai, Chinese style crackers shaped like a mini curry puff with peanut fillings inside.

If you happens to be eating there ... do drop by and take a look.
Don't buy never mind ... it's interesting to see how he make this Sh Qima ... if you're lucky enough to catch him making it.

Yes yes yes ... I know this ain't a card but they only got flyers.
And it's coloured !
Our main aim is to share good food location so let's imagine it's a card lor. lol !

Was shopping at Marina and headed to the food court for lunch.
It is totally different from the food court I used to work in. ::x:
A place I spend my term holidays earning some extra to pay for books.
Now ... it's being renovated into a modern style food court with concept lightings and layout.

Surveyed the place and finally I settle for my favourite prawn noodle soup.
What catches my attention ... they uses live prawns of good decent size.
Comes served with two live prawns, slices of fishcake and stewed pork ribs.
And it only cost $5.90 for a large serving.

Given a choice of original prawn soup and herbal soup base.
both tasted fine but I would prefer the prawn soup base than the herbal one.
It's prawn noodles ... no prawn's taste in the soup tasted kinda funny to me.

The two prawns were juicy and sweet.
Aunty even allowed me to catch my own prawns ! :D
It's self service here and the serving size was good.
For the price, food and the aunty who took a good 5 mins to explain to me the choices available
for a bowl of noodle which cost only $4.90 ...
It's definitely worth a try.

We come across a writeup on new style cafe and restaurant located in community centers in Lifes !
Curiosity and the love for good food took us to one of the featured restaurant and we chose Brewbaker in Seng Kang !

What attracted us to give it a try is the price.
It was written that these new cafes serves up restaurant/hotel standard food at fairly good prices.
But it was a totally different story ...

Location fairly easy to find, right in the community center besides the new swimming complex.
Deco is new of course, neat and tidy ... don't give you the "restaurant" feeling.
More like a pub cum cafe that serves up drinks ~

What really disappointed us was the food !
Total disappointment. Will never return so you guys who have not tried ... don't waste your time & money.

The food tasted like it's being microwaved and served.
I had their chef's recommendation BBQ Lamb Shank ... the meat was tough and hard, worst ... it's cold on the inside. 0.o
Even the BBQ Chicken wasn't "hot" at all.
The milk tea has no tea taste, dessert has nothing to brag about as well.

I regretted believing what I read, or maybe we made the wrong choice of location.

Here's the final reason why we will not return ...
With such food at this kinda price ... we could have eaten in any other restaurant with PIPPING HOT food !

Every time I pass by this shop ... I love to stare right into it.
Very big shop space, all walls painted to white, only two small sofa seater at a corner in dark brown
and a small counter that looks more like a reception area.

Initially I will wonder what they sell ...
Furniture ? Interior design firm ? What trade are they into .... many questions in my head ???
And one fine day I asked Simon and he said ... silly you ... they sell chocolate cake !!!

Yes ... need not say more, the best chocolate cake I have tasted till date.
And the best part, not many varieties to choose from so you won't get a headaches. lol !
We went for rum and cherry with extremely spongy chocolate cake ... YUMMY !!!
No need pre-order unless you want it for birthday or special occasions.

It's worth the price tag ... go get one to find out the price tag for a 500g chocolate cake. :p

Hidden in a corner of Yong Siak Street, is a restaurant that dish up some truly delicious dishes.
We drove pass this restaurant umpteen times ... always curious what it actually sells.
It draws a good crowd especially during lunch hours.
With a simple signboard just big enough for you to notice which reads ..."Traditional Hainanese Curry Rice"

Finally we stepped into this restaurant today ... wanting to eat Hainanese curry rice of course.
But to our surprise ... they don't sell the usual "curry rice" we have in mind.
It's more towards tze char style dishes.

What's even more surprising was ... the food here is really good.
Suits our taste bud perfectly.
Was so engross in eating, I didn't take any pic of the food at all !

We had duck soup with salted veggies, white braised pork which was super delicious.
A cold dish of home-made tofu with century eggs and white rice to go with.
Had to try their signature curry rice too and all these for $42 ( inclusive two hot drinks ).

I have to specially mention about the white braised meat we had.
The pork was braised till it was sublimely smooth and tender.
Come served with an invigorating garlic and vinegar sauce, it will makes you drools !

I have to mention also ... the lady boss was very very friendly with a mega watt smile. :D

Finally I found one of my favourite bak chor mee in Sing ...

The first time I tasted their noodle was when they were still in Marina Square Food Court, the outdoor one.
They moved out many years ago when Marina Square went through a major revamped.

Has a friend who is returning from overseas ...
I was clicking the internet to find nice eating bak chor mee and accidentally end up reading someone's blog on it.
The Tai Hwa Bak Chor Mee !

Yes ... I have already tired it at it's new premises at Crawford Lane.
The aroma of the vinegar is exactly the same as before but any other than that ...
it's a little disappointing for me.

Expect long Q's ... as usual when hawkers start to go on TV shows and their counter crawl all over by posters.
Though they still maintain one and only store concept ... but the quality of food has kinda changed.

Expect to pay as much as $4 for a small serving and $6 for an extra large serving.

Think I have not only found the long lost noodle I always wanted to eat again ...
I have also eaten the most expensive bak chor mee in Singapore ! 0.o

Okay ... no card for this one ...
Not they do not have a card, is each time I visited the restaurant, the long Q has me forgotten all about it.
So till today .. no pics, no card and no review yet ...
But I really would love to share this nice interesting eating restaurant with fans of dBilicious ~

NASI LEMAK KUKUS

Located at 908 upper Thomson Road Singapore 787111

Here's their website : http://www.nasilemakkukus.com/www.nasil ... /Home.html

And here's their FB link : https://www.facebook.com/pages/Nasi-Lem ... 2464642357

Business hours : 6pm - 3am daily, closed on Monday !

Expect to pay not the usual price for nasi lemak here unless you go for their standard set.
It's 100% self service at a price ... take a plate, take what you want, order drinks from the kitchen and pay !

I personally like the sweet sambal chilli sauce which goes very well with the nasi lemak.
You have got to give it a try ...
And don't forget the Vietnam drip coffee !!!
