Hmm, do you have a pic of this fish that you've encountered? I actually have only encountered this particular trevally once, which weigh about 600-700g. It hit my live prawn in mid water while I was retrieving back.
Most trevallies have similar shape and colour can cause confusion in identifying them. The more commonly known Peh huerr is the Bumpnose Trevally.
Still I would need to see a pic to confirm if it's the same fish.
