Anybody getting into surfcasting???I saw a Shimano Torium,wander if it is good or not.

Can anybody recommend me some other brands and tell me the prize???

Need to compare the prize of Shimano Torium.Thanks!

Torium is typically used for bottom fishing but you can certainly use it for casting as well. It lacks cast control so you have to thumb it timingly or you'll get spool overruns resulting in a bird's nest. It's a quality reel for starter no less but if you're just started casting with overhead reels, you might want to get one with cast control to reduce bird's nest situations. You can check the price of torium at fishing buddy website as a guide.

You can also check out Daiwa Sealine series (star drag), it has cast control (centrifugal brakes I think) and cost around the price of a torium or possibly cheaper.

Although buying second hand reels cost u less money,but they can cause more problem for you!

That is true, it's difficult to check for any problems with the reel just from exterior look and cranking it. But if budget is a constraint and you really want that reel, 2nd hand is the way to go. ;)

i have a reel called the tokushima...its 79$ and its not bad...it has
high strenght aluminium handle
and three ball bearings
good luck finding a same mosel =p
If ur looking for low profile...go to fishing buddy
Urrrgh, no time to fish now~
