For first timer at the Kelong ...
Fishes to expect are : snapper, grouper, mangrove jack, gelama, stingray, selar, scat, todak etc ... just to name a few.
Tackles and Rigs :
For those who are targeting biggie ... a surf rod is good to have.
For those who goes there for some fun and pass time ... any fishing rod is fine.
Have a light set so you can jig for selar, ang zhor kee, anchovies or catch gelama to pass time.
If you have handline ... do bring.
Rig : really depending on your setup ... generally, apollo or LSBF are what we use in our previous trip.
Do get a few tamban jigs too ..
If you have any further queries ... post it here or you have the no.s to call ... 9191 XXXX

Hi dBs, one query from my side... If one has EP then what are the requirements for going to Kelong? Do we need Visa for Malaysia, or just the Passport would do?
Everything is possible... The impossible just takes longer...
My Weapons:
- Highland Seahawk Graphite HLD902HS rod (9 feet, Heavy, 18-35 lb)
- Haibao C6 Reel 40F (Ball Bearings: 6, Built-in LED)
- Seahawk Pro-Line 25 lb Mono Line 0.32 mm diameter

Hi Grawpy, to the best of my knowledge, an EP is not a travel document.
Thus you will need a passport.
However, as you are not a Singaporean, you might need a visa to enter Malaysia.
As you already know, the Kelong is located in Malaysia waters, one will have to clear the Malaysia custom for entry into Malaysia.
According to the Immigration Department of Malaysia :
Every person entering Malaysia must possess a valid national Passport or internationally recognized Travel Document valid for travelling to Malaysia.
As I do not know the country of your origin, you might need a visa in order to visit the Kelong.
Here is a link which you may find helpful ...
Malaysia Visa Requirement by Countries
Do note the Kelong does not requires special permit to enter.
It is like a leisure park like our Sentosa.
All you need is to clear the Malaysia custom for entry.
I can help you check with the custom officer at the Malaysia custom when we go for our trip on the 23rd.
Else you can always call ICA for further clarification.

Re: Chia Soon Kelong ~ 23rd April 2011
if got fenzy how much bait is enough???
if frenzy is just slightly out of reach with live bait, how???
still bringing a couple of surface cruisers or halco roosta is so much lighter, neater, practical . . .
