13thMay'11 CR

Post by Melw »

Got a little sick of not catching fishes on public fishing spots,
So i decided to go and search for spots of my own this morning!
Decided to be a little cheapo & get live prawns from Sheng Siong instead of tackle shops.
Upon arriving at the supermarket i realize they ran out of small glass prawn, damn.
Had to use those fat & big sea prawns instead.

Headed down to spots, located on goggle map!
It was close to noon by then, not sure why i decided to go fishing at the lowest tide of the day :\
1326 0.8L
Ripped my prawns apart & started fishing :S
Seeing many ripples on the surface of the water,
told myself seem like there are fishes around here after all!
After numerous casts & sometime later,
Something hit my bait!
After some struggle I got it in!

My first ever wild KBL!!!!! :)
Shiok!

Good Job. I had my first wild KBL at East Coast and it felt really amazing. So far I've caught around 5-6 wild KBl at same spot, and at least 90% were caught at low tide. I believe KBL are bottom feeders and seems like low tide got more chance. Seldom find them at deep water. However those above 5kg are in deeper waters. Keep up the great work.

That's a fantastic catch Melw, and a first try at your new spot. :D I also like fishing during low tide but it can be difficult if you're fishing from shore. When the tide recedes, the small fishes are more concentrated in a smaller area of cover so it makes more sense to hunt during that time. :p

p/s: Welcome to HLF, Leng. :)

Thanks Leng & Peace :)
Never knew it was ideal to fish during the lower tides! Always had that mentality that Higher tide/More water =Higher chances of hookup!
The feeling I had when I caught my first KBL was really amazing! Looking forward to fighting another one. :p
Yeah, Peace! Love this forum of your's it much friendlier & nicer then the other local forums. (from my own point of view)
Thanks :)

Thanks Sgpu :)
It a handline weight attached between 2 plastic beads.
I'm doing that for spinning as my lb line is not low enough to cast without a weight :\ yeah.
You will catch your kim very soon, don't give up :)

Thanks for supporting HLF, Melw. It is true that high tides are good for fishing as well, it depends on the species of fish and they're pattern of feeding. Fishes like Stingrays actually favour coming closer to shore during high tides so it can reach eat those crustaceans hiding in shallow waters near the beach. Higher water level also means fishes that prefer cooler water can come in closer to shore as well.

Wow wow weet ... see what Melw have to share with us here ... a beautiful Kim.

One interesting facts about kim bak lor ... they do come very very close to shore to feed.
It's ain't surprising to spot them at shallow water below knee level.
So when targeting for them ... always remember ... they are as close as where you are standing. ;)

Thanks to you guys and welcome Leng to our little forum.
Don't be shy to share even if it's a wall of words.
The exchange of experiences here is priceless.
With lesser legal fishing grounds and fish getting smarter,
We need every bits of infos we can to know them better.
Just like Melw ... we realize kims feed during low tides too ... :D

Thanks Peace and dBs. I prefer to fish at low tides in canal as the frontal area which the fish can swim is lesser, so maybe more chance, lol. I don't know about beaches as I sangkot until tired liao. But am willing to learn from you guys who are more experienced and hopefully can get more fish. Let's hope everyone gets a fish for every trip, CHEERS!!
