I am planning my first fishing trip to Sibu kelong . Could anyone give me some advice on the trip? Often hear ppl say that it is dangerous to drive in Malaysia and so on. Is it wise to drive up with my private car (2007 fiat grande punto)? It should be no problem if I just drive all the way to the jetty, non stop, right?
Many thanks in advance!

Too many scary stories regarding driving up to Malaysia ...
As long you drive safely and carefully ... it should be fine.
Take extra care since we are not native and if this is your first trip, drive slowly ...
If you have driven in Malaysia highway then you more or less will know what to expect.
Else ... it is still drive carefully ... and always give way to others.
Weather you are in Malaysia or at home in Singapore, iPhones, lap top, GPS etc ...
Keep it out of public eyes ...
My friend just had his side wind screen broken, iphone and gps all gone ...
Price for a late night supper in JB.
Do not speed ... else you risk being fine for nothing.
They especially like Singapore registered car ... you know why lor ...
Have a safe trip and enjoy your fishing ~

Re: drive up to sibu kelong
there are a lot of blind spots
includes, wide or gentle bends. approaching bends, never over take as your vision is dangerously narrow vs your speed. the bend might look wide, but when you are speeding, you might not be able to react as there might be oncoming vehicles doing their overtaking too. bend too wide, you might drive into the on coming lane. bends too sharp, you might drift out of lane.
up and down slopes. going up or down a slope, never over take. if there's a double white line it means never overtake at all time.
their highway at times are 2 lanes, otherwise single lane only.
other than which in terms of security. do not expose any card or items that suggest there's valuable in it, or the item is valuable like GPS, LV wallet, lap top bags etc. even though it might look worthless, but to criminals, they would seized every opportunity.

Re: drive up to sibu kelong
It'll be helpful to have a good 'co-driver' to watch out for hazards on the road and to keep you awake throughout the journey. But I think you're more concerned about leaving the car unattended when you're out fishing ya?
Re: drive up to sibu kelong
Thanks for the kind tips and suggestions! I have more confidence now. The car park at Tanjung Leman terminal seems pretty safe, at least they claim so. I am more worried in getting into trouble on the way. It can't be that dangerous as some says, tons of people drive there and come back just safe everyday, right? I will be extra careful on the way and never make unnecessary stop, should be no problem.. Thanks again!
