Why are these fish golden in the morning but silverish black at night?

It's a mixture of lighting when taking the picture and different environment they're caught from. The first one is caught from a more sandy spot while the latter is from a more muddy environment.

Yes, they are commonly found in rivers and coastal areas, so can tolerate fresh and saltwater.

I'm not sure but I bet it can. I used to see them in parts of freshwater streams where the spring tides would reach.
